has anyone successfully changed an automatic tranny to a 6 speed manual?

i drive a 99 gsx and its a automatic.

i found a 6speed tranny that i wanna put into my gsx.

will it work?

since your gsx is awd you have to make sure its coming from a awd car, yes you can change the tranny over but like i said make sure the tranny is from another awd, also you should check with a tranny shop about the ECU, you may have to buy a many ECU unless you find a good tranny guy that knows his tranny connectors and has some experience with resisters and such

I've heard of something like that before. It was from an sti i think? I could be wrong. anyways, it took a ridiculous amount of tuning...like its not a plug and play kind of deal. quite the project i bet.

Im just wondering but why wouldnt you want to swap in the 5 speed manual from another GSX? It would be a lot simpler to do that than it would be to find a six speed that would be compatible.

Just do a ATX to MTX swap from a GSX. It will be a ton easier than trying to fab everything for a 6 speed. Plus, 5 gears is good enough for most people.
