hey guys my names Adam, i'm 17 and from Rochester (upstate) New York, and i just bought my first DSM today. 1991 Talon TSi AWD. bone stock, 5 speed, maroon w/ silver bottom, 130k mi. car has a few problems like the ebrake doesnt work, the pass headlight motor is fried, car runs but wont idle (most likely a dirty TB so i'll check that out). one of the previous owners ran the car into a curb, and broke some stuff, but the last guy replaced the control arm (nothing else) but the wheel still has some positive camber (gotta figure that out, maybe just an alignment would fix?). other then that the car seems to be in perfect condition. barrely any rust (Tiny bit around drivers side quarter wheel well) perfect interior.
I've been into cars for awhile, but imports is a new adventure for me. i've had a '72 lincoln continental Mark IV, a '94 Saturn SC2 (both gone) and my other car is a '85 camaro IROC-Z (With problems, so its off the road until spring, needs a tranny and some other stuff). so things like fuel injection and computers kinda scare me, LOL. as far as fuel managment and emissions and OBD stuff, you'll hear alot of questions from me.
my first concerns with the car is getting whats neccessary fixed (all but the camber are easy) then doing a complete tune up. i would like to cover plugs, wires, timing belt, serpantine belt, all fluids (already got oil, wanna change tranny, transfer case, and diff). am i missing anything important to keeping my car healthy? with DSMs having some notorious problems i would like to keep my car pretty stable for winter. well sorry about the length, but i'm all excited about this car, ive been into DSMs for awhile but not have had the time/money to get one.
thanks, Adam

EFI and ECU's used to seem scarey to me. Once I realized how they aren't scarey so helpfull I was more excited. There are so many cool things you can do with a socketed EPROM ECU its really sweet.

hey congratulations on the new car...... for more info you can check out these sites considering you're pretty close to em.

http://www.rochesterdsm.org Many experienced DSMers here so if they don't know how to do it, it can't be done.

http://www.wnydsm.com Mostly a Buffalo chapter, but we have close ties to Rochester.

Good luck....
