I did the o-ring throttle body shaft seal described in the V-FAQ:
Throttle Body O-Ring
It worked for a little while and I had some fun doing it, thinking I was saving money. I have the seals from SBR (Mach V Throttle Body Seals) to replace the leaking o-rings. I think they will seal better and last longer.

alright and last question is how big of a leak is that becasue in lower gears like 2nd and 3rd at wot ill spike 20psi and it will drop to 15 sumtimes a little bit lower. then say im crusing at 70 in 5th and i give wot it stays at 20psi. i want to run 20psi steady in evrygear.. i did boost leak test and only place i have leak is coming from the thottle body .

Any leak is big. Fix it.
Can't argue with that. However...
I'm prone to procrastination and laziness. I found the o-ring fix was leaking again so I bought the real seals; over a year ago. I test my IC a few times a year, fix any noticeable leaks and ignore the hissing from the leaky o-rings. I got by but my tune probably never as good as it should have been. Sometimes my best purpose is to serve as a bad example. Fix the Leak. I'm going out to the garage tonight to change those damn seals. Thanks for the inspiration. By the way, Anthony, your http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/295679-stuck-throttle-body-shaft-seals.html thread did very little to inspire me to get started. LOL

It was just because there was some confusion on my part as to whether I needed to use the old OEM metal casings that come out of the TB when you use the flathead. I was trying to put the MachV seals inside those metal casings, and they will never fit. That was the first real issue.

The second thing was the spring. Apparently, the spring wasn't in the proper position when I bought it. So when I put the line down the spring before disassembling the TB, it didn't do me any favors when reinstalling it. When I sent it to Jim with the White-Out making stairs (instead of the straight line) it was actually in the correct position.

Just so we're clear, you should never do the o-ring replacement. Getting the Kaman or MachV seals will do the job. Trying to get away with some crappy o-rings in the old metal casings will lead you to immediate boost leaks.

Good write-up. I had my throttle body out, seals replaced and back together in no time last night. I would change one thing in your procedure. There's no reason to remove the the throttle cable assembly and spring from the shaft. Remove the nut under the throttle position sensor, pull the shaft out an inch, unwind the springs and take the cable/spring assembly and shaft out. I used your idea of tying the two spring ends together; keeps it from getting mixed up. I was concerned about damaging the new seal when pushing the sharp end of the shaft through so I lubed it and twisted while pushing. It popped through without any visible signs of cutting the seal. All in all, it's a quick and easy repair.
