Thinking about a dsm have questions

I want an awd turbo 1g dsm but im not sure if one year is better than another. What are the differences between the years? I have about 5000 now to buy a car and mods i want to go as fast as possible with this much money? How is the tuning guide on this site should i follow it and do the stage 2. Any info would be great thanx.

What are your goals?

Do you prefer to go more for looks (2G) or cheap performance (1G)?

1G = 1990 - 1994
2G = 1995 - 1999

Do you want AWD or FWD?

We need more info to go off of.

EDIT: Doh. I could have sworn that "1G AWD" part wasn't there.

Anyway, 90-91 = 3-bolt rear/6-bolt motor
early 92 = 4-bolt rear/6-bolt motor
late 92-97 = 4-bolt rear/7-bolt motor

Supposedly, the 6-bolt motors are less prone to crankwalking and can support more horsepower. The 3-bolt rears break rather easily after a few hard launches, the 4-bolts hold up much better.

Also, the 1990 DSM has strange electronics, a much longer shifter throw, strange shifter brackets, and a rather weak transmission (single-synchro 2nd) compared to the rest of the DSM line.
