Mike was late this morning. We wanted to get on the road by 8am but it was closer to 9am before we finally rolled out. With the new Dunlops the VR4 pulled the trailer like a dream.
I drove the first leg. Our first tank of gas wasn't impressive. We only managed slightly better then 17mpg. Steve took over the second leg of driving and about two seconds after it started to rain. Then it poured. And then it really started to rain. Just as we got past Cleveland the car sputtered a bit. Steve and I kind of looked at each other and I motion to Mike for my laptop. As it was booting the car bucked some more. When I finally got the PC up and the ECMlink running Steve had motioned that she was going to die. We pulled over and I hopped out to check under the hood. Everything looked good so I had Steve fire her back up. It sounded OK so we took off. It wasn't...
With the ECMlink I could see that the MAF raw was holding around 1300Hz and the when it sputtered that number would jump to 30,000Hz. We made it to a rest stop and I decided to pull the MAF. A little drop of water came out when I cracked the coupler. Yep, the MAF was wet. The cold air box we built has an opening on the bottom and it the down pour the filter got wet. With no other option but to go on that's what we did. The car bucked and sputtered itself across Ohio and finally into South Bend.
Once in South bend we hit the bar to meet the other drivers and say hi to Brock. After we got a bite to eat we headed back to the Hotel and I pulled off the MAF and air filter and brought them back to the room. Using the Hotel hair dryer I did my best to dry them.
We'll see tomorrow how good of a job I did and how much water is in the intercooler.
