Okay, so I'm looking at getting a sound system as a christmas/birthday present.

Also, what's the difference between a component speaker system and 2-way speakers?

EDIT: Answered one of my own questions

Also, how does this system sound?

Kicker KS60 (6-1/2" 2-way car speakers) - $69.99
Pioneer DEH-2700 (Headunit) - $109.99
Kicker TC104 (Ported Box w/ 10" Subwoofer) $149.99
Kicker KX350.4 (4-Channel Amp [60W RMSx4]) - $249.99

EDIT #2: Got rid of something

unless im missing something you will need an amp to push that subwoofer and your 4 channel will do your other speakers.

if you want to drive that sub you are going to need another amp, unless you want to just give it a little juice form the 60x4 amp bridge it over and get like 300w out of it, if its bridgeable of course, then run the factory speakers from the headunit....

better yet get another amp like seb said and wire it like this

headunit > 60x4 amp > speakers
\/
300w rms amp
\/
subwoofer

the 300w amp doesn't have to be multichannel because you are using only one sub, monoblocks is usually cheaper and doesnt affect subwoofers, i have a 1400W sony xplod monoblock amp, you want a little over your subs rms, which is 250w, so 300 should be fine. you can get 250, or even less but it wont sound as good

you can save some money by just using the radio's amp to power the car speakers, because you are only upgrading your rear speakers

any questions message me

You need to do some lurking. Start here:
http://www.carsound.com/UBB/ultimatebb.php
http://www.bcae1.com/

As with modding your car, there are many was to approach this. I prefer to go into things with a concept of where I wish to be when done.

The difference between component and two way is only in the speakers physical construction: two way "coax" are permanently joined, while most components can be set up as separates or as a conjoined two way.
Speakers of both types are available that range from junk to fantastic.
Given your budget, I would strongly recomend looking at used gear. After some lurking in the sites above, you'll be able to get a clear idea of what you need/want. I found a long time ago that audio people often sell perfectly good equipment because they're always looking for perfection. The Alpine 9835 and Boston Pro 3 way components in my GSX, were bought used on Ebay in pristine condition, in their original boxes.
A little study time here, will save you money and assure good results.

im sorry your sub is only 150w rms....so make that 300w amp 200 instead

and for 149.99 you can get

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VYODAxTmcbw/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=028V123BP&g=510

2 12" subs in a bandpass, 300 rms each so 600 total....so about 4 times as loud as your 150$ kicker only .8dB lower

So could I run both of those off of a mono amp with >600W?

EDIT:

How about this, can anyone help me pick out pieces for a sound system? I want something that sounds decent at high volumes, but isn't too expensive (not necessarily cheap, but nothing like $500 subs or something.).

As I posted before, you really need to lurk on the other forum and site that I posted.
It's pretty evident that not much of this makes sense right now but that's ok a little reading will fix that. We all start somewhere.
If you can't search for info and read, your alternative is to pay someone else to design and install for you.
