Why would you want to switch awd over to fwd for a day or what ever? For dyno? Also Ill look into these and see if I can bring some light to your question.

VCE's were a little more popular back 2 or 3 years ago before having an AWD dyno wasn't as easy as finding a gas station. If you disconnect the drive shaft in an AWD car and try to run it, you will almost certainly damage the viscous coupler. A viscous coupler eliminator is a welded unit that eliminates the ablity of the coupler to slip and the VCE then puts equal power to all four wheels, but will not unlock so it reacts a little bit like a truck that you lock into 4x4 mode on dry asphalt. VCE's are also popular because if you blow out a rear axle, rear end, or drive shaft at the track, you may be able to still make it home with out the use of a trailer by allowing the drive shaft to be dropped and the car driven home.
