hey i have a fluidyne radiator that i'm trying to put in my car right now...what sucks is that the stock fans are having some trouble with fitment. the large main fan on the left keeps getting caught on everything!!! so i took it off and it fits perfectly now...problem is i'm uh pretty sure i need that fan...but if i switch the a/c fan to main fan spot will that work? i'm going to order a set of fal fans which are slimmer i believe, but for the next week i'm gonna need to rig something up....and i'm definitely willing to sacrifice a/c right now. any and all help asap would be more than greatly appreciated! thanks :thumb:

btw-its on my 97 gst if that matters at all

I run a Fal and the stock AC fan on my race car 100% of the time the engine is running. Just using the AC fan should be fine as long as it's operational and you're not running the AC unit in the car...

yeah see what i did was since the large main fan was too big, i took it out completely and put the a/c fan in its place and hooked it up to the main fans plug. the a/c fans plug is not connected whatsoever. only reason i did this is the a/c fan is slim enough to fit in there. i just wanted to basically know if anything bad is going to happen. i figured nothing would happen since there is still a fan there and i have the fluidyne radiator in. any input would be appreciated. i just got the whole setup in, but i cant test it out, too many oldies where i live and its 1230 LOL.

You should be good to go. Just make sure the fan is working before you do any long drives...

Not questioning your knowledge but when Im on a long drive, my fan never comes on. It only comes on during the stop, idle, go driving. As long as you have a good radiator and steady speed, inetia should cool the radiator, not the fan.

And for the original poster, it should be fine. If you do use the ac, just keep an eye on coolant temp and make sure it doesnt go higher than normal. If it does, turn off the ac and see if it goes back to normal

is my a/c still going to work now that i disconnected the fan? LOL, sorry if that's a dumb question. yeah i got the idea of when im going fast (highway or streets whatever) that the fan really wouldnt even help that much and it should stay cool and its only during idle/stopping that it helps out. i just wanted to make sure that the fan would work. ill definitely be making sure tho that its all good, still gotta go for a run to check the status of that beast. can't wait :thumb:

Yes, it will still work. Both fans have the same wiring(12v, neg ground) and I beleive(dont know for sure) that the ac fan will pull a few more cfm than the primary fan. The biggest thing that will determine if all is good is the coolant temp. Just keep an eye on it.

i took it for a ride this morning, i had it idling for about 10-12 minutes, the temp rose and stayed perfectly in the middle, but the fan never came on. the temp never went up, and then i went out and made a few small 3rd gear pulls and floored it all the way thru 2nd once. temp stayed the same. then i let it sit for about 3-4 minutes at idle in front of my house and the temp was the same still. but no fans turned on. do they turn on at a higher temp maybe? i made sure the plug was in and spun the fan myself to make sure nothing was blocking it. i'm stumped right now.

I had to make custom brackets to fit my aftermarket fans to by fluidyne. You might have to do the same. I used 1/4 x 1-1/2 alum flat bar with a hole on each end to go from the radiator holes to the fan shroud holes. It might have worked to use zip ties but I wanted something a bit more substantial.

yeah my stock a/c fan basically bolted right onto the fluidyne radiator, i just had to file down the holes a little bit for a perfect fit :thumb: ....i just took the car for a rip run for about the past half hour or so and the needle was perfectly in the middle the whole time, and after beatin a bit i let it sit for about 10 minutes and the needle still stayed teh same, i forgot to check the fan though and see if it was on :toobad:
