hey guys,

i installed a new crank pulley a couple weeks ago. my question : Is there some sort of spacer or washer or anything in between the pully and the crank, because my crank pulley doesnt seem to line up with the alternator and water pump pulleys. alternator and water pump are also new and new belts. it squeals like a mofo and i need help.

Thanx alot

I haven't done a crank pulley in awhile, but are you sure you don't have it on inside out? I think it will fit either way, but one way will line the belts up correctly. I'd have to go out and look and I'm lazy, sorry. Just something to check out. Don't see what other possibility there is though, you know? :)

i dont think its on backwards, but i guess its possible. smaller diameter of the crank pulley toward the outside or on the inside?

anyone else?? the spacer or washer theory?

thanx

There is no spacer or washer, that much I know. You either have the wrong part or something on wrong. So either the crank pulley is backwards or everything else out of line is! I'll look tomorrow and post back if I can tell what might be going on. Can you get any pics?

The smaller (AC) pulley goes on the inside. No spacer.

so the smaller diameter of the crank pulley, the AC half, not the alternator, goes to the inside. toward the crank??? just making sure?

thanks so much for the replies

i think i have it on backwards

The "bottom" of the pulley should be towards the block. So the pulley is pushed out towards you, not up against the motor. If that makes sense. I think you do have it on backwards, it's the only explanation! As to what Defiant said, when I was putting on on a couple years ago, I almost made the same mistake you did, it goes on, bolts on fine, just the alignment of the belts gets screwy. My friend quickly pointed out, "is that the way the old one was on, I think you have it backwards."

Something I just thought of, there should be a notch in the pulley for checking base timing. If there is one it should be on the outermost lip. If there isn't one, make sure to put on, and put a dab of white out on it as well so it's easy to see under the timing light. Just a pointer that will make life easier later! :thumb:

i f*cked around wit it the whole day yesterday. the pulley is on so that the smaller side of the crank pulley is on the outside, away from the engine. i tried turning it around and installing it , but it wont install the other way. did i maybe get the wrong part from mitsu when i ordered it ??? part # MD376608. the old crank pulley that came off looks exactly the same, wit the smaller side of the pulley away from the motor. wtf is goin on. im confused

thanx guys

edit: my post was useless

# MD376608 - 6-bolt crank pulley
# MD376609 - 1g 7-bolt crank pulley
# MD377604 - 2g crank pulley

you sure you don't have a 7-bolt?

Grr this is pissing me off! I wish I lived in NJ so I could come check it out. I can't think of anything else, unless you have the belt to the alternator on the inside pulley, and the AC on the outside pulley, I would think everything would be straight! Sorry dude.
