I can't get my flywheel to stop moving on my 90gsx when I try to break the bolts loose. Does anyone know how to jam it? Thanks alot

I know someone here has taken off their flywheel before! Please I need some help!

What you have to do is make a tool out of barstock (I believe theres a vfaq on it www.vfaq.com) basically what you do is take off the crank pulley, then place the tool that you made onto the crank, tighten down the bolts, then prop the tool against a support or something similar (depends on how long you make the tool). Then you can go ahead and crank those bolts off. Good luck.

Simplest and quickest is to use a screwdriver and stick it through the holes provided on the flywheel as seen in the pics below. It will stick through and catch on the block on the backside. If it doesn't try repositioning it in another spot.

I held my flywheel in place using an old serpentine belt I had laying around. Just wrap it around the flywheel, and hook the loose end around a bolt that you stick in the end of your cylinder head. It was a simple matter to hold the flywheel still like this, because the harder I turned on the flywheel bolts, the better the serpentine belt gripped the flywheel. The best part was that there was no damage to anything from a jammed screwdriver, and no special tools to make.

I was going to use an impact wrench on it, but couldn't find the direct fit for the socket. Are the fly bolts 18mm's, because it seems like its a 17.5 mm. Too bad they don't make them.

I just purchesed a new 6 point 18and19mm sockets. the 18mm was about 1/4 of a mm to large, so I used the 19. I cranked up my air-compresure up to 110psi, and the bolts didn't budge at all!! I'm thinking of by as huge ass peice of metal and driling holes in to attach it to the fly. Then let it sit, and brace on the ground, and using an extention on my 24in tq. wrench to see if I cant budge these thing loose. If you have any further tips, or coments please share

Mine were a PITA to get off. After 130000 miles they were not happy. I made a bracket as mentioned in the vFaq and used a 6ft pipe on my socket wrench. I had to put most of my weight on to the bar to get the bolts loose.

So my recommendation is get more leverage, and bolt the flywheel down! Fwiw, i used my 3/8" craftsman wrench and socket.

and aren't those bolts 17mm?

I stuck a half inch ratchet in the center of the crank pulley which in turned braced against part of the body, while turning the fly. Be careful not to round the flywheel bolts I rounded 2 and took me 3 days of cussing to get them off.

Although a good method, it'll only work if you've not cracked the crank bolt loose already. Or as long as you've torqued it correctly when doing your timing belts and it's still tight.

i have an answer i use fairy dust its magical, when combined with an impact the nuts spin right out if no impact around look at the harmonic balancer i think you can stick thingy in there and hold it. hope you didn't spin the crank backwards or else you might end up using saw dust as fairy dust substitute. fairy dust can do anything muuuaaaaahhhhh

As fairy dust can do anything, I got everything working. It starts up good, but does not fully disengage, so i've orderd a longer push rod for the master cylinder to get some more presure.

Oh by the way, I'm selling the old fly wheel for 38 shipped. If anyone is interested pm me.

let me what that light weight fly wheel is like i have the same car and was considering gettting one i know what they are like on fwd but not awd

those are the most beautiful picks of a flywheel i have ever seen
looks like fairy dust is the bomb

Oh my god dude, its like an orgasm! My turbo spools up so much faster, and it halls so much as. Funny part is, im in the process of breaking it in, so I took it easy on a civic an just owned it! AWD=awsome

i thought it would be like that my buddy's fwd is like that with light wieght fly wheel and he can't stop wheel hop not even at 45mph
