OK so check it out, I drove my talon from Madison Wisconsin, straight to Orlando FLorida to pick up my 2 boys. The only issue I ran into was, I beleive I have a short in my windshield wiper arm switch. ANyway, the talon had maybe close to 800-900 miles on the brand new motor. I arrived at Orlando, got my kids and all was well. We made it through Florida and arrived mybe 40 miles south of Atlanta. I filled up with 89 because the 93 was $4.41 a gallon, and I was like on a huge budget to make sure I made it home with my kids in the car. I filled up and we drive away no issues. I get like 20 mins into the highway speed 80mph and car is at I believe 3100 RPM and all is well until it kinda gave me a slight buck. I look down and oil pressure is great, coolant temp is in the middle, so I think nothing about it. Then It bucks again and I watch the RPMS go from 3100 RPM straight to 1500 RPM and it WILL NOT go above 1500 or speed up. The throttle response is gone and the more throttle you give it, the more it sounds like im just bogging out the exhaust. Then the car would buck and clear up and RPMs would just jump back to my normal 3100 RPM and everything was back to normal. I watched my UEGO dip into pig lean and then no reading when it went into this limp mode. I DO have videos of this and no one knows what it can be. I was thinking maybe bad gas, but I treated it and topped it off with 93.

I pretty much ran from Atlanta GA, to Madison WI with the car in limp mode and a CEL that popped on around Illinois. I was literally DUMPING GAS like no tomorrow and was lucky to see 150 miles to a tank. With the car in this condition, at a idle it would run rough and be at 100 RPM maybe but still running and not ever stall out. It sounds like a Subaru hardcore.

Fuel Trim Malfunction. Link was showing Combine Fuel at 29% at idle

I replaced the front o2 when I we did the rebuild, so maybe 3000 miles on it now with the nice long trip

Probably destroyed that wideband sensor by doing that.

Its in bank 2, I dont think it would have saw any excessive heat or anything. Maybe I could be wrong. She is in the garage and still starts up, but running like a subby

I'm betting the problem your having is the random misfire code, which drops two cylinders when it triggers, and will run like you're hearing.

If you have your laptop, pull the codes, and verify which "DTC Checks" are enabled on the "DTCs" tab of ECMlink. With a 1g CAS you need to turn off "misfire detection", or something to that effect, I don't have my laptop in front of me.

Clogged cat?? I have no idea, that's a tough one. I'm sure you know more than I do, but it did happen when you switched to 89oct, have you tried going back to 93 to see if it goes back to normal?

You have an I4 engine, so you don't have a bank 2. It's bank 1 sensor 2 (B1S2).

You have the front and rear, which when you order your O2 sensor, the stealership wants to know bank 1 or 2. bank2 is the rear as I was told. Eh sorry its in the factory rear o2

no cat and yes I have been running 93 the whole time. Still runs funny. Misfire sounds about right, but why wont my link pick it up, Im on V3 full and SD and all the top notch shit. hmmmm I need to get back out to the garage LOL

FIXED

I started to check the plug wires to make sure all was well. Well one of them wasnt seated 100% into the coil pack. Weird how I put like 2000 miles on it with no issues, but hey its fixed now and scoots. Thanks for the help guys

Good catch, my suggestion was equally easy, check the turbo inlet hose, if its loose you suck uncounted air and the O2 sees this and the ECU compensates with huge fuel dumping. Not to mention the crappy running till you get enough boost to suck the tube back to the turbo enough to close most of the leak :)

was going to point out that it was a coil problem. I had my dsm do this exact same thing. Then the coil pack started smoking when it was parked. IT was the weirdest thing. Just glad I caught it when I did otherwise I think it would of started a engine fire. Replaced the coil pack and it was fine ever sense.
