Ok guys I have a newbish question.
Last year I replaced both front hubs with Timken Hubs. I think I screwed them up though. I Installed the hubs and put the suspension back together, set the carback on the ground and pushed the car 30 feet to the street. The car sat there for abou 5 days and I pushed it back in. I raised the front up to do some brake work and found that the new bearings had excessive play in them already! I got pissed no need to say and just dropped the car back down and left it alone. Well Im deployed now and thinking about all the things that I need to do to my car to make it operational again and this came to mind.
Here is the question. I never tightened the axle nut. Would this cause the bearings to fail in 60ft or less? Would the play go away if I simply tightened the axle nuts? Or are they just a bad set of hubs?:

I wouldn't think you would destroy the bearings in only that small distance, but if you never tightened the axle nuts that is most likely your problem right there. Tighten up your axle nuts and you should be good to go. I doubt both hubs would be bad right out of the box.
