So I'm completely new to dsm and would like to learn some of the terminology used such as 1g 2g and now for the real question what typical rim size for all wheel drive type: DSM I have a 95 GSX but don't know what is considered cool..... I know in the Honda world 15 and 16 are acceptable size for a decent rim looking for insightful information thank you anything that would come to mind that you think would help a total newbie
 
i have the stock ones on they are 16, i have seen some go as big as 18,
its up to you but make sure it fits
1g is the first generation(89-94) eclipses/talons/lasers
2g are second generation (95-99)what you have
 
6 bolt engines are faster, but they came 89-92 I believe and some 93-94. Anything 95+ for sure has a 7 bolt. I would say 17 in rims and lowered looks the best. What color is your car?
 
17 sounds reasonable I was thinking maybe even 18 with a wide tire for even better traction but how wide can I go 10 inch maybe ... my car is black needs to be repainted tho

6 bolt has 6 bolts on the flywheel, very strong engine

7 bolt has 7 bolts on flywheel, not as strong.. gets crankwalk more easily
 
Ok Ok so my car is completely stock for only maybe an aftermarket Bov how would I go about choosing a clutch that's not too aggressive and what brands are Ok for suspension or lowering kit on my Hondas I always loved the tien adjustable dampers and it's so easy to get parts on Craigslist but no one has any dsm parts on there :(

do you want springs or coils? and clutch maybe a stage 1? how much power is your end goal?
 
I'll be happy with mid 12 I had a low 13 all motor honda so I think being turbo awd it should be reasonable and I like coils better to have that option of there a car show or something like that dump the car all the way to the ground

Some of this information is false.

93-94 DSMs came with a 7 bolt 1g block. You can also tell the difference from the oil pan:

6 bolts are not "faster" engines, a 4g63 is a 4g63. 6 bolts are less prone to getting crankwalk, but there are plenty of DSMers on here running 7 bolts, that are fast, if not faster than most 6 bolts on this forum. There are also different 7 bolt engine designs, later years are less prone to crankwalk, although I personally have no proof, never worked with a a later year 7 bolt 97-99

I think you are mistaking the word "strong" for "stout". 6 bolts have proven themselves to have less problems, but its no a slower engine.

Lets stay away from "stages". This isnt the Honda game. I suggest the op finds a power goal, then purchases a friction disc and clutch plate to match. There are plenty of varieties and combinations to use, that will cater to your needs, whether it be a daily driver, street/strip, or track only.

Wow that link was extremely helpfully I just opened it and briefly skimmed through the page and although a lot seems to be a refresher course I can't wait to get to the good stuff I need to learn thanx a lot

So If I have a 94 I for sure have a 7 bolt?
 
the biggest i've seen run on a DSM is 18x10, which required some fender rolling to accomplish(rudeboistance).

For the best overall lowness/look, i'd say either 16 or 17s. 17" wheels are more common to find, but IMO 16s are the good median of small/large on most any car.

i'd personally recommend 16x8 or maybe 16x9.
