fuel delivery problem?

The car will start up and run but after accelerating a couple thousand rpm, it bogs down.
I think it may be one of two problems but not sure.

1)the fuel pump was replaced, but the guy got it from a junkyard, so it may be a N/T pump. i dunno if the two are different pumps.
2)The fuel filter was replaced, but the line broke in the changing process and was kinda clamped back together. kind of a rigged job.( also when car is parked there are rainbows in the puddles like its leakin gas.)

The car was code scanned and came up with code 42 which lists fuel pump/MFI?

could this problem be as simple as a fuel line replacement?

Even if it's not the cause of the problem, I would replace the fuel pump and repair the line correctly. It's cheap insurance against a fire and the possibility of running god knows what fuel pump in who knows what condition.

well i guess scratch the fuel problem, except for it cutting out at higher rpm's..

the actual problem is that it builds boost, but for some reason seems like its not getting the air or the fuel cause it accelerates like a n/a car. then all of a sudden the boost will "hit" and outta nowhere it takes off like it should..then it starts to stutter higher rpms(probably fuel pump/line problem at that point.) now im thinking the problem is the vaccum system maybe?

Have you taken a look at all the "normal" things before getting to deep into the problem. Such as plugs, wires, fuel filter, boost leak test, base timing, etc.

Also, it would help if you could fill out your profile, so everyone knows what car we are dealing with.

Change the line. Air in the line can cause maaaajor problems, and probably the code you're getting

what kind of problems/symptoms from air in the fuel line?

btw, its a 90 talon tsi 5spd
