Ok, so i have a 99 gst, and when i bought it, it ran perfect. it was at 79000 mi with no indication of having the timing belt changed so that was my first priority. while sending the car in the alt belt ripped so that had to be fixed too. when my car came back i was really excited but only to be disappointed by the fact that the car feels like its red lining after 4500 rpms, and a belt was squeaking. i figured the red lining thing had something to do with the timing belt and the squeak with the alt belt. after a 1 month run around, the mech finally decided to take the engine aprt again and check the prob. he had replaced the water pump and said this time around that the problem was the water pump and he replaced it, he also said that when he took it apart the timing belt was on perfect. i test drve the car bout 10min ago and the car is still "redlining" at 4500 and when i started it up, it started squeaking again. im done with that mech, but wut should i do? where should i start? i did extensive research key wording and checking so many forums that it made me sick, and didnt really find anything similar. please help...i figured id get help from the real experts.

I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place then, haha.

I'm sorry to hear about your luck. To help you out better, can you describe this "redlining" feeling you are having?
Do you not have any power past 4.5k rpms? Do you feel like you hit a brick wall at 4.5k rpms? Do you just have hardly any power?
Anything more to better describe that, would help out so we don't misdiagnose it, or have you checking a million inconsistent things.
Oh and have you noticed anything else, do you have any CEL lights on?

wow im impressed, that was fast, yea the car doesn't completely lose power, it feels slightly slower, but power loss isnt really noticable. the "redline" feeling is like a strong, intense vibrating of the car. it doesnt like shake violently or anything, but i can def feel the wheel vibrating in my hand. i did notice the oil light flashing on and off on the way home so i checked the oil after the car was shut off for a while and the level was fine. i appreciate ## help.

Have you checked your motor mounts? maybe they are loose. Did you have balancec shafts removed?
Does the rpm bounce to redline when you are at 4.5 k?

Sounds like to me? That your mechanic is an Idiot haha! Well Hopefully not... It could be however that he did not replace the timing belt right? also he probably didn`t align the balance shafts correctly? My first move would be to bring it too a DSM shop & just see if everthing is set correctly! One or two teeth off & Boom!?!?! all of a sudden your knocking and your ecu is retarding timing! This would make your dsm unhappy at higher rpm`s. Disconnect your negative battery cable for 15 mins & take it for a cruise... If it feels better I`m sure your timing is off.

Could be that when he did your timing belt it jumped out time or he didnt align something up like someone else mentioned, along with what the other guy said, take it to someone who knows alot about the 4g63 motor itself, this sounds like another typical "certified" mechanic that gets stumped by a dsm. Even veteran mitsubishi dealership technicians have a hard time figuring out these specific motors and thier problems. Most of the time a good old dsmer knows more then any mitsubishi technician alive. I really dont think you have a major issue with the car, hopefully its something out of wack and needs attention immed. dont go racing it around either. Also hopefully he didnt go test drive it and slightly spin a bearing not letting you rev past 4500rpms

just have the damn mech do a new timing belt it's his faul first of tell him he needs to fix the balance shaft belt it's the one that makes that problem happen(feels like a zzorrrooomm right), then tell him to double, or threeple check the oil pump timing too, it might be wrong

thanx everyone, i appreciate all the feedback, dont know wut i would do wihtout this site, ill go do all the things u said to do. and about the mech doing the timing over, he did that yesterday and he said everything was fine.... so im going to forget he exists and take it to a dsm shop. my only problem with this is that if the retard mechanic did mess up the timing, ill have to dish out another 400 or wutever for someone new to do it...im not rich, as much as i wish i were, and im sure that goes for a lot of us dsmers.

Dude, tell that guy you want your labor cost back. He screwed your car up worse then it was. You cant let these mechanics walk all over you.

Or you demand your money back from him and tell him your going to see a compotent mechanic. Threaten to take him to small claims court, BBB, anything. He should either redo it, or give you the money back so you can get it done right. Don't let people step over you.
I'd hate to jump to such jurassic conclusion like your TBelt is off time. I guess it could be your balance shaft bearings/belt/block off, depending what he did to it..
But a vibration can be a lot of things, just a question of what he could've done that caused it..

EDIT: Ah, beat to the punch!

ok here's something you might wanna do, check the timing right, replacing the timing belt is easy it's only time consuming, you can check it yourself, first put a jack on the oil pan with a piece of wood so you wont dammage things then make the jack with the piece of wood lift the engine a bit, only a litle bit then take the engine mount off the one that is in front of the timing belt covers then lift the jack a litle bit more only a litle bit so the engine rests on the jack/piece of wood, and then you sould loosen the bolts of the water pump pulley before taking the belts off, then take off all of the accesories belts then take the timing belt covers off, and now take the Crank Pulley off and (four little bolts) and it comes off, then now with a 1/2 inch ratchet insert it in where you took the crank pulley off in the center then turn the engine clockwise, make the timing marks align once then check all of the marks and then turn it again, and place it on the marks again see if they all align a few times, (the car should be in Park if auto tranny or in neutral if manual) you can do that, to make sure, it will only take you a couple of hours with the right tools, tools needed a

a Jack
a 10mm
a 12mm
a 14mm
15mm 17 or 18mm wrenches or a ratchet with those size sockets

thanx again guys i am goin to go to se that dumb mech tomorrow and demand my money back n take it to someone that actually knows wut they re talkin about
