I have a 2G where the engine just let go at 57K. I don't think it was crankwalk but rather NOS by the previous owner with bad tuning. Long story, but the car was stored for 18 months, started rarely, while I was overseas. Upon return, I was able to drive it 6 miles before the number three piston/rod gave up the ghost. I have yet to tear it down as this happened 2 days ago but I am looking at the new engine. I would like to continue to use the 7 bolt. Does anyone know of an incident where an Eagle Crankshaft with the recommended Clevite Bearings crankwalked? Thanks.

There are many theories into why the 7 bolt block is so prone to walking. Putting in an eagle crank and clevite bearings doesn't mean it wont crankwalk. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. If i was rebuilding the block I would just go ahead and find a 6bolt block and use your 7bolt head.

Correct me if im wrong, but I thought that all clevite bearings are now aluminum and therefore meant for short term uses only, such as dragging. If your engine went at 57k with short term race bearings that's quite an accomplishment.

I think he is saying his stock motor went at 57k. And no, you can still get the tri metal bearings made by clevite. As for the thread starter, I would suggest getting a 6bolt. If you are going to going to go through with the engine rebuild, just go with a six bolt. The swap is pretty easy. You can always go with the 7bolt head if you want. That will eliminate most of the issues I assume you don't want to deal with (just have to have the head bolt holes bored out a little to accomodate the six bolt head bolts/studs.) Magnus motor sports has a really good easy to follow tutorial. Its added insurance and your not going to need to spend 700 dollars on a crank. (since the stock six bolt crank is good for an easy 4-500 ponies.

Thanks all. I only mentioned the Clevite bearings as I saw on one site selling the Eagle cranks that they were the only ones they recommend. I will consider the 6 bolt. I have seen where Slowboy racing has a shortblock 6 bolt ready to put in a 2G and am thinking heading that direction. I am really looking for reliability more than performance. Thanks again for all the quick replies.
