When i last started the car, i didn't have a pocket logger but i was visually and acoustically checking it to see what was wrong. I found a couple of things immediatly, but after about five minutes the coolant overflow bottle starting bubbling out of control. The pressure built up and then knocked out the the top! I shut off the car immediately and pulled the thermostat and dumped it in some boiling water. I waited till the water was real hot and dropped it in. After about 2 mintues, it started to oped. I'm replacing that but i also have another question.

I bought this car with some modifications already done to it. I'm doing a complete overhaul of the engine, but i ran into a problem with the radiator fans. How are they controlled? I have a switch in the car that does nothing (completely aftermarket) and i'm not exactly sure where these fans would turn on.

Also, i'm switching to high pressure hoses, does anyone have any particular series or brand that they've used?

Thanks alot. The help i've recieved on this forum about DSM's is amazing. This 90' eagle talon is one of the best cars i've ever had.

For the coolant issue, replace t-stat with mitsu OEM, flush rad and put in 50/50 coolant/water mix, and replace radiator cap. If it still overheats then it might be the water pump (a $70-100 part). So try the cheap/easy stuff first (t-stat, flush, rad cap). I think it should open instantly in boiling water (or within 10-20 seconds).

For the fans, the smaller fan is for A/C. If you turn on your A/C, that fan automatically comes on. The main fan is controlled by some thermostat (I dont think its the same one we are talking about tho), it kicks on at a certain temp. Do you think the switch is hooked up to the fan? I would assume the fan comes on after the temp reaches normal operating temperature (not sure though).

For the hoses, do you mean radiator hoses? I hear any silicon hose is good, and mitsu OEM is good also.

Good luck with everything, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

finally a response.

I will be changed the t-stat and all other of the usual suspects with the coolant issue.

the hose question was directed to anything that you may think that may require high pressure hosing just for reliablity purposes. Any ideas?

thanks alot for the response.

Honestly I can't think of anything that needs high-pressure hosing, it is a good idea to replace the rad hoses with mitsu OEM tho. Also the vacuum hoses might be a good idea if their worn out or original. Maybe if you have big plans for the car (like over 300HP) then better fuel hoses and fittings, but for a stock or mildly modded car I think thats overkill. But if I think of anything ill let you know. BTW when you say complete engine overhaul do you mean rebuilding the engine? If so use a mitsu 4-piece metal HG, ARP head studs, and if you have lifter tick then get the revised lifters. A set of HKS 264/264 cams would be nice too ;)! Before you put the new engine in definetly make sure the fan is in working order. Good luck!

thanks alot for the help speedfreak.

i just got back from rally NY and WOW WAS IS INCREDIBLE.(i used caps because the event was SICK)

great showing of WRX's, Evo's, Mazda, and of course our Talons. The event was great.

I noticed that most of the guys running were using silcone and not braided high pressure hoses. When you race rally, you have to be looking for the most durable product out there. It was incredible to say the least.

thanks alot for the response. and yes i am doing a complete rebuild. ARP heads will be used, and i'll think about those cams.

once again, thanks for your time.
