for reference, i'm talking about a 1991 Talon TSi without the factory alarm.

i know they didn't come from the factory with keyless entry, but when I manually lock my drivers side door, my passenger door locks automatically. so the passenger door lock has a solenoid in it, unless it's somehow mechanical, which I highly doubt. how about the drivers side door?

i ask because this remote start that I bought has the setup for remote keyless entry, and if there's solenoids in there, they have wires, and if they have wires i can tap them to install this keyless entry setup.

anybody have anything? maybe an explantion to how this system works?

Alarm wiring info

Door Lock Brown/White **at relays on relay block to L of
Door Unlock Brown steering column - 3 wire neg** #447

#447 Unlock driver door only - Blue/Red in driv kick panel

here's some info, maybe someone that understands this could chime in....

my guess is when you lock the door, some kind of mechanism sends a signal to the relay, then the relay activates the lock on the pass. side? but if I manually (by hand or with a key) lock or unlock the drivers side door, how does that trigger the relay?

the remote start i'm putting in has the harness for the remote keyless, and it's only 5 wires.

1 red, and 2green and 2 blue.

so if I can tie into the signal somewhere, i can put the remote keyless in the thing...where though means I need to understand how the system works in order to tap into it

all right, so the setup is negative fired, aka pull-to-ground.

so you only used the brown/blue wire? so you can only lock your doors?

anything else cool I can control with this trunk release wire?

I would have to check my wiring, but I have mine set up to unlock and lock using the two wires coming off the two relays(there are three total) above the clutch pedal. The easiest way to find said relays is to unlock and lock the doors with the button and listen/feel for the click. Then find the two wires. Brown/white and brown/blue. Lock and unlock respectively.
The alarm should have two signal wires that it uses for unlock and lock. Most of them are pull to ground(negative trigger) and should have no problem merely splicing into the two wires at the relays. I used a knife to take off some of the jacket and then wrapped the trigger wire around the relay wires then taped it off. The wire taps may have been a better choice, but so would soldiering it. Try getting a soldiering gun up there; heh.

Essentially the relay wire(brown with white or blue) is grounded out(by the alarm) therefore activating the relay(powering the coil) which switches power to the door lock solenoids to lock or unlock them.

Edit: its hard to say without having the maual for your remote start infront of me, but normally the blue and green wires are used to either power a relay which sends power to the solenoids OR they are used to power the solenoids themsevles with green being unlock and blue being lock, therefore the need for two wires(that may not be the right actions but you get the idea). In this case, you'd only need one green and one blue which would go to the brown/white and brown/blue wires.

cool, thanks for the replies.

i checked the schematics online (i never got a booklet with the remote start)

and it tells me what wires to use....

the red wire grounds in this application and 2 of the wires aren't used.

my question was actually in response to "1slo1g" because by reading his post, it sounds like he only hooked up the brown/blue wire (aka the door lock)

oh, some POS unit... bulldog security or some crap.... i got it in exchange for the repayment of a debt that I was unlikely to ever be repaid for....
