HI everyone, I am new here so goes easy on me... I have some questions I'd like to see if someone could give me some help in the right direction. I currently own a 1992 Hyundai Excel X2 4 door and am so ready to get the swap underway. Finally found a place that is willing and just as excited as myself to do the swap. The only thing is, I would like to know if I can use the engine from a Mitsubishi Galant VR4? The quote I was given seems reasonable but trying to find ways to save what I can and it seems that the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 4G63 Front Clip is alot cheaper than the Mitsubishi Eclipse 4g63. This swap is only looking at taking 1.5 weeks to finish and they are jus waiting for me to give them the "let's rock!" The engine code is the same I'm more than sure but is the bottom end the same as the eclipse? Please help, don't want to just dump my money when I can save some hard earned cash. Thx...

Well I was kind of hoping for some quick feed back but thx for reading anyways. For those interested in Newbie questions, I decided to just go with the Eclipse front clip plus the DSMTuners taking care of the swap right now as we speak said this would be something they would prefer doing since this was there specialty. I just didn't understand why the Galant RS wouldn't have worked since it was the same engine code. Anyway, they even dropped an extra $200.00 of the price which was great, that just showed me they were on my side plus like I had said, they were more excited than myself to get this underway. For those interested;

Current specs
1992 Hyundai Excel 4 door (X2)
1.5 12 Valve SOHC
pushing about 90 HP, maybe alittle more since I was currently running without the MAS.
Custom paint job with side moldings removed and tack welded for that clean look plus custom fabricated trunk.
Chrome 17" rims on altered suspension coils. Dropped the car about 2" from stock look.
Full body Graphics
Blue Neon under car kit.
I'd love to post pics but the rules say we can't unless its a DSM so will post pics once the swap is done.

Currently undergoing project as of now;
1992 Mistu Eclipse GST 4G63t engine
not sure what there HP is...
the same tranny from the Eclipse, we purchased the whole front clip.
Axle and CV Joints from Eclipse, well dam just about anything from the front clip that will be and can be used in the swap.
Relocating the battery in the back trunk.
Air conditioning gone "Sucks"
No power steering "Sucks"
1.5 Weeks time and counting.

Question on my current swap, does anyone know or have had any type of good or bad experience with using purified water over regular tap water in there radiator? The guys at the shop are telling me to try to find a intercooler from a starion, does anyone know were I can purchase on of these from? Have been trying Ebay and my local junk yards with no luck. Thx

Wish I would've seen this earlier, you could've saved some $$$. The engine and drivetrain from the Galant VR-4 is the same as any 1G AWD DSM (with the exception of a higher first gear), and many of the engine, transmissin, and bolt on parts are interchangeable.

You don't want to use tap water because the impurities in the tap water will eventually cause corrosion in your cooling system. It's not something that's as bad as running an engine with no oil, but using distilled/purified water will make for one less headache of replacing a radiator and water pump that would fail prematurely because of this.

Check your local DSM boards, the classifieds section on this site, dsmtalk.com, galantvr4.org, starquestclub.com, or dsmtrader.com. If you can't find a starion intercooler, a fmic from a Galant VR4 would work just as well, or better because it is more efficient than the starion units.

Thx Quasimondo
I really wish I would have know or had this info 3 days ago. The eclipse front clip was 2400.00 and I could have gotten a Galant front clip for 1700.00 Again thx for the lesson with tap water usage, that is very interesting to hear. I haven't tried looking for a intercooler from a VR-4, hopefully I will find one on Ebay. How good or decent is the stock intercooler from the Eclipse? One more thing, when would be a good time to buy a MAF? Didn't really understand what the tech was trying to tell me about these. Thx for your time.
