Recently purchased a 95 talon tsi awd:sneaky::D

So to start, i did weeks on end of craigslist searching i wanted specifically a 95 (no emissions and love the 2g's) I come across a post, "runs good, 20g, low miles for the year, etc". Drive two hours after work cash in hand and my mind on F*** it mode, look at it and only bad part (noticeable at time of purchase) was the full blitz body kit and altezza/euro/clear taillights, rattle canned interior that was peeling. Engine sounds good, pulls good, talk the guy down an extra $500.

Get home, fall asleep. Wake up walk outside and get my tools out. I take off the front bumper, break it. Take of the rear bumper, break it. :applause:

Here comes the engine work. Start taking it apart with plans of cleaning up the entire engine and bay, p.s. reservoir is leaking. No problem, I'll probably take power steering out of the equation anyway. Friend gives me a FP Manifold he had laying around, ok, while I'm here lets swap it.taking out the studs I hear what appears to be a bubbling sound :hmm:
Keep loosening studs, more bubble sound, I squeeze the upper radiator hose and what do ya know... previous owner pierced the head :ohdamn:

Eh... I guess there's the $500 I talked him down LOL

Now I'm sitting here thinking of all possible routes to go; throw a head in and drive it around while building an engine or just build an engine considering its NOT my daily. 6 bolt 7 bolt? 2gb talon bumpers 2gb eclipse bumpers? Keep it black or change the color? Etc etc.

Eventually I will reach my long-term goal of a 10 sec. TSi AWD

I will keep you's posted as I make progress with my build.

look forward to following your build. Many DSM'ers were in the same boat. In order to know your cars done right and runs good is to do everything yourself. When you buy something you never know what you will get.

Thanks appreciate the response. Hopefully my build gets going soon! Either way I will definitely post updates on here. Maybe even start a journal.

U gotta start a journal! Just updated my build. DSM's are such hit and miss...Had mine "stock" supposedly and it still got crankwalk. Going for my daily driver, exact opposite! (95 No Emissions is right!!):thumb:

Wish I could somehow turn this thread into a journal!

Bought a head from a local, a timing belt kit with BSE Kit and ARP studs from STM and a cometic head gasket. Waiting for everything to come in the mail and prep for install. Still need to buy all parts necessary for a complete tune up and all lubes/oils. Thinking of eliminating EGR while I'm there and probably doing the same with power steering.

Anything else recommended to do in the process of everything stated? Or parts to purchase/install

Sorry to hear this. Its sucks so bad when people sell cars and are just not honest with all the bad bits.
Get that new head on and drive it. Just enjoy it. I'd get yourself a spare block and start slowly building it for when your ready to go for that 10 secs

Yea I've ran into this one too many times but I actually figured something would be wrong with it for the price I got it for!

My plans were to do just that, throw on the head drive around and find a six bolt block and build that ground up.

What makes you want to remove the power steering. You could always relocate it if you want a clean bay.

I Guess a clean bay IS the only real reason and i figured I wouldnt need it in the long run since my car will be drag only but I'll look into relocation!
