Well first let me say that this is a great site.

I may be coming into a 94 Talon ESi Auto and I may need some answers since DSMs are not my specialty.

My girlfriend has had the talon sitting in her backyard for the past 5 years or so and was regularly started for about 3 of those years. But in the past 2 has NOT been started at all. We recently got a key cut (since her stepdad is a key monger and hides keys all over the house and couldn't find the other 2 talon keys)

After breaking the seal on the doors from the past 2 years we were able to sit inside which surprisingly had no water and as far as we could tell, nothing living in there. We popped the hood and it looks clear of mice and other notorious bugs and insects.

When the key was inserted and turned there was obviously no cranking whatsoever. But some lights had come on. On the cluster the battery light, seat belt light, turn signals, Overdrive light and the power/eco light all were functional. The front wiper blades would move. The rear washer nozzle would spray (the wiper wouldn't move). On the back of the car, the turn signals would blink and (which i think may be a big problem) the reverse light came on when the key was turned.

Now, regarding the reverse light being on when the key was turned. The car looks like is has rolled forward over the past few years and was wondering if the car rolling forward could throw the trans into another gear or have broken the trans. When sitting in the car with the key turned on and foot on the brake you can move the shifter. It seems to have more play in it then it should. I was wondering that if I put it into neutral and roll the car back if that would help me problem and maybe be able to force it into park. Since if the car thinks it's in reverse it's not going to start.

What are some tips about getting this car started. Since i can't get under the car, I'm not going to be changing the fluids out. Moving the car is also out of the question since the tires are shot. My one friend suggested that i pull the plugs and spray the plug tubes with WD-40 and crank over the motor to build oil pressure. And put new plugs in.

Any help is welcome!

Sorry for the overly huge post. I'm just trying to get everything up front about this car all at once.

I would pull the plugs out and disconnect the battery. Next, get you a good battery, and run a hotwire to the starter and ground on the motor. Jump the starter power wire to solenoid to crank the engine over. That should flush anything in the cylinders out. Next I would drain the fuel and put a few gallons of fresh fuel in or just mix the old gas with a quarter tank or so. I would then hook up the battery so car has power. Then turn the key to on then off like 10 times to charge the fuel system with fresh fuel. Crank her over and let us know if this works. Sometimes a little bit of starting fluid works wonders too, but usually in the winter is when it is really needed....should fire! Try it and let us know.

thanks for the answer.. i will definatly have to try that whenever i can get a chance. is there any suggestions about the trans problem? im not sure when i will be able to get a chance to be really looking at the car again.
