External vs Internal Wastegate????

Found my answer, after search for 15 minutes didn't find anything, came across it by accident.
I have another question, where would be the best install for the external wastegate, on the O2, or Manifold???

Thanks

Off the manifold is the best place to mount an external WG.

Its removable/replaceable/upgradeable without removing the whole turbocharger assembly.

It allows for "more precise" boost control than a Internal WG.

IMO they both do the job they are designed to do, its mostly your turbo/setup/preference that designates the need to change over.

I like the more "stock" apprearance. Kinda hard to deny you have a Tial WG when its sitting right there in plain sight in the engine bay!:thumb:

That's not true. It's the cheapest place to mount an external gate. The best way in my opinion is off the o2 housing.

Really, from what I read on these boards, and from personal experience; having the external mounted off the external manifold gave us consistent and steady boost every time.

I prefer mounting of the external WG on the manifold. Heres why. If it's boost creep you're worrying about, porting of the turbine and O2 housing will do the job if it's done right, no I'm not talking about a vendor port job. External on O2 or O2 dump are pointless if you ask me because the same proper port job of the turbine housing that I mentioned above is still required which makes both O2 dump and external on O2 unneccesary, FP setups being the exception due to the custom FP turbine housing.

Also, if your changing turbo setups that require a different 02 housing but use the same manifold, you are looking into buying a new 02 housing again, which is not cost effective, thus leaving you to do the same port work again on the new turbo.

I preffer the External WG on the manifold b/c, to me it seams more logical.

When you install your wg on the O2, you take a 40mm wg for exemple and you install it on O2 were you have only a 34mm flapper. Were is the good think? To mount your wg on the O2, you need to work the turbo to remove material between the wg flapper and the exhaust outlet to have a big exhaust outlet.

I could be wrong here, but when you put the external gate on the manifold it only pulls from 1 cylinder. With the gate on the o2 housing it pulls from all 4 cylinders and is more consistant. I have a RNR o2 housing with the external flange welded on and I can go anywhere from 12psi to 40+psi with no creep at all. Again, I could be wrong on this one so don't shoot me down to hard if I am.

Actually, you can mount an external wastegate on the collector, but the majority of people put it on the #1 runner just because it's easier. I forget the exact numbers, but an external wastegate it operate just fine on the #1 runner up to around 500 HP. There's nothing inconsistent about it.

I have mine on the #1 runner and I've ran 14-24 psi, and never crept or spiked at all.

I know this is a crazy old thread but it's the only relevant one that I could find that was from this year atleast.

I decided to ditch the 38mm internal that I hhave on myGT14 because I read SBR's turbo testing INternal wastegate review and the turbo's didn't hold the desired boost till redline and that is def not ok with me. I'm not worried about creep as I will run probably like 20psi maybe a little more all the time, but not holding boost is def bad :notgood: . Anyway to my question I'm lookin at o2 housing mounted externals and I came across a 60mm!!!!! My question is will the 60mm take away to much exhast flow from the turbine wheel and actualy limit how much boost I can run max or does a MBC(which I have) keep it shut till I get to my desired psi? Pretty much is there such a thing as to big of a external wastegate and if I'm not worried about boost creep is it neccessary to port the passege way still.
