i am going to be mounting my tial wastegate on my 2g manifold. where is the best place to
mount a flange.
(1) weld a flange at the collector.

or

(2) weld a flange on the number one runner.

if i do the collector is it possible to weld a flange directly to the manifold. and have the gate
upright or will it hit the hood

thanks

Bu$cher does the wastegate welding to the stock manifold for a decent fee.
You just cannot weld it straight or else very quickly the heat up/cool down cycles will pop that baby off.
You are welding a steel mounting flange to Iron.
They heat the Iron to certain degree, then they weld the steel on. This will help keep them at the same expansion/contraction rate to prevent it from popping off.

As for where to mount it... I did my external for my T3 off a WG eliminator plate.
I do not have the O2/Internal WG housing, so I drilled the block off plate and put it there where it would normally go anyway.
I do think that Bu$cher typically welds it off #1 runner. They do do it enough to know where to put it without fitment probs.

Unless you are over 500+ HP, it will be just fine on the #1 runner. I don't think you would have enough room to mount it off the collector on a 1G, nor would it be easy because of the way the casting is designed. On your average 300-400 HP DSM, there will be absolutely no difference between mounting it on the #1 runner or the collector. Here is a pic of mine, just to give you an idea where it fits best.

and another thing i was thinking about today

is the manifold really cast iron? i thought it was some kind of cast steel or something else, not iron?

Drilled directly into the center of the collector, then used a piece of stainless pipe, welded inside AND outside to the manifold.

How is it you go about getting the hole in the manifold to weld the pipe into? Holesaw?

I highly doubt a holesaw will work. I ended up taking it to a shop, the welder drilled a hole through it's center with a milling machine. 100$ total.

Cant beleive you spent 100$ on a hole. Dont know how else you can do it though, dremel maybe ?ROFL

You can find the piping at an autozone, a home depot, or an exhaust shop near you.

Flanges from ATP or MachV.

LOL. I meant total, for the cutting, piping, fabbing, and welding it up.
