Does anyone know what other turbo conversion kits are out there for 1g 4g63 N/T engines other than the TSI Extreme kit. I want to add a turbo but want to get everything all at once, in a kit, not buying everything seperate. I can't find any other kits out there. I've looked at the parts catalog on here, it's only got upgrades for TSI's and GSX's. I've searched in the forums and haven't found much. I did find the tech article about making your own kit, but I really don't want to take that route. If anyone knows what kits are out there or what the TSI Extreme kit's like, please let me know. If the TSI kit's the only one out there, where's the best (cheapest) place to buy it. I found it on turbo-kits.com and prostreetonline.com.

Those are turbo upgrade kits for the 2'nd gen 420a engine, I have a 4g63 1'st gen non turbo. The parts catalog only has a N/A 2g listing, nothing for a 1g N/A. 1g's never had the 420a. My buddy has a '96 Talon with the 420a, the engine's mounted in the opposite direction of the 4g63, it's not the same turbo kit in any way. Before anyone asks, a turbo engine swap isn't an option for me. None of the junkyards around me have anything other than the 1g 1.8L SOHC engine, and I don't have the time to do something like that anyways.

First off, I'll say what I always say: Sell the car and buy a 1G turbo car. It'll cost you less and save you time.

If that's not an option (too much insurance money, inherited car from very special relative,...) then I'd say get a complete FWD turbo drivetrain with ECU and harness and swap it in. It's not that hard and again would probably cost you less money. It'll also be alot more reliable since the bottom end was designed for boost (oil squirters, low compression, forged rods). You'll also be getting an ECU that is designed to tune your fuel and timing curves correctly. I don't see why finding an engine would be that difficult, just find someone selling it in the classifieds and have it shipped.

If you still insist on turbocharging your engine, why not just use OEM parts from a 1G Turbo? You'd need an ECU/harness, injectors, manifold, turbo, o2 housing, downpipe, oil pan, knock sensor, IC and pipes, MAF, pump, throttle body, and probably a dozen other misc. parts. This would be more complete and of better quality than a "kit".

This turbo kit that I mentioned before looks pretty cheap, even though it's like $2,700 on some websites, maybe someone else has it cheaper, I don't know. That's why I was asking if there was anything else out there. If I want stock turbo parts, I'll probably end up getting them off of ebay. I went to a couple of junkyards yesterday looking for a valve cover, the only thing I found was one 2.0 block, nothing else. That was out of about probably 5 to 10 DSM's, they said all they ever get is 1.8L engines. I'm thinking I'll keep looking on ebay, and if nothing turns up, I'll just forget about it.
