How hard and how much would it be for me to slap a turbo on my 1st gen?

I really want a turbo dsm but i am happy with mine right now i would really just like to know how much it would be to turbo my car and how much it would be. I was thinking about going to a junk yard and finding a 1st gen gst and getting all the componets and putting it on my car. what do you think i should do?

Im sure everyone here will give you the same answer.. Its so much of a pita to convert a NT over to a turbo car. Turbo 1gs Cost like 2-3k for a pretty clean car. Best thing to do is just sell your NT and look for a cheap Turbo 1g.

if you really like your car and you don't want to go out and buy a turbo DSM, then their is a write up in the TECH section about building a turbo for a N/A 4g63.

Mavisky has a pretty good and detailed writeup on how perform the swap between a n/t and a turbo engine.

Xhypno has a writeup that details how to turbo the n/t block instead of performing the swap.

The choice is yours. :dsm:

It's not that hard to do, when I did it I bought a parts car and used the parts I needed. It's amazing how convenient a parts car can be when you own a DSM. But the project can be done in a weekend.

hell yah i am tring to buy a parts car but it isnt a turbo. i wish it was soooo bad though but yah thanks to every buddy for your input in what i should do

did my NT to Turbo swap for around $1200. found a smashed up turbo car with a good motor/tranny/ECU/harness and swapped it all. actually not too bad assuming your already 2.0 and not 1.8L

it's easiest to just swap it ALL, and not just the turbo components. don't forget a new fuel pump and larger exhuast too. my guages and everything plugged right in too, so i didn't have to mess with that or the wiring up there either.
