Heres the deal, I have a HM boost controler settup, and I have the controller set up to bleeD the boost into the atmosphere. My friend informs me yesterday that I should be loosing power through this settup because I am leaking pressure to the atmosphere, and I should run the BC straight on the outlet/wastegate hose so the system is sealed. IS this correct that I am loosing power with my settup?!

remember my advice. "your friend" or "that guy you know" are always morons.

but I am saying am I loosing power by bleeding into the atmosphere? With his settup, the (vacume) system will be completly sealed.

Is their a right and wrong way?

There are 2 types of manual boost controllers:

Bleeder type: there is a hole in the line to the WGA, which can has an adjustable size. This hole lets you bleed off some of the pressure, so that the WG will open later. However, this is also a boost leak, and it slows down the boost response because it doesn't really delay the signal to the mbc.

Ball-and-Spring Type: There is a spring inside the MBC, with a ball bearing at the end of it. Normally, the spring pushes the ball bearing and keeps the air from going through the MBC. However, after the presure overcomes the preload of the spring (which is set with an adjustment screw), THEN it can go to the WGA. This keeps the WG shut until you start boosting. This type of MBC needs a very small bleed hole, but it's not enough to cause much of a leak. Techincially, it's a vent, not a bleed.

You are losing power because of slower spool and because of the leak. If you're going to build your own, at least make it a ball-and-spring, or just buy a hallman, they're like 40 bucks.
