I'm ready to dyno, any advice??Tuning tips, etc for dyno?

Hi there,

I am ready to dyno my car, you can check out my mods list, but Also, Is there anything I should know? My local shop told me that I can have 3 pulls/ one hour for 100.00 plus another 10.00 to log air fuel through my tail pipe. Any tuning tips, or anything I should know before I dyno. I've got a 1997 Eclipse GS-T

thanks,

Mark

make sure the car is running in tip top shape. Otherwise the time spent on the dyno is worthless. Meaning, no boost leaks, good sparkplugs, good gas, etc. Dont jump the gun the first pull. Start off with the stock timing map, decent AFR and desired boost then work you're way up.

Also exhaust leaks will kill you. Make sure you have no leaks at all basically. Good advice with being conservative on your first run. After that you can determine your next move with what you say. If you have a datalogger take a log with every pull. And don't get your hopes up too much, alot of times disappointment is the fall of many!!!

which is why i dont want to dyno my car lol. but i would say, tune it as best as you can yourself so you get a nice base map and you can work on fine tuning on the dyno so you know what changes make improvements and which ones arent too good.

Thanks all for the information, I'm going to grab a new set of plugs then. TI got the BPR7ES in my car right now, but they are like 3 months old.. about 5k miles on them... maybe I should just check it out and regap them or somethin. I have no exhaust leaks, I took care of that when I installed my ported manifold and new turbo, and as far as boost leaks, I will check again. I do not have dsmlink, so I cannot mess with my timing, but I do have an AFC to fine tune the chip from DSMCHIPS.com. thanks again!

Mark

oh, do you suggest I turn my boost up to the level I want it at? which is at 18psi , or stay at 14-15 psi and tune for that psi?

thanks

I would go with a higher boost then that, but thats just me i would start off with 18 and go up to around 30 psi probably with race gas, of course that is in my situation. and use some race gas to get some nice numbers

Does your dsmchip set your CEL as a knock light? If so, I would say set it around 18 to 20psi and do a pull or two on the street to see if you have any knock or even watch your timing advance with a logger. No point in setting the boost that low. You can mess with your timing a cheap way sorta. Pick up a 1g CAS and wire it in. Set your base timing to 7 or 8 degs and watch for knock. Cheap way of advancing timing and picking up decent power.

Thanks for the info man!! with my setup, i was really hoping for at least 18 to 20 psi, no more.. a couple weeks back, before I got my wide band, I turned the boost up to 21psi and I got knock in the high end, but I turned it down to 20 psi and no knock...so it was all good, and i did not mess with the tuning at all, just kept the stage 3 chip settings they made for me. Also, is it that easy to rewire a 1G CAS to a 2G head? how is that possible? doesn't my 2G have some kind of sensor on the cam gear side, as well as the NON adjustable sensor on the left side of the head??? thanks!!

Mark Padilla

LoL... COMPRESSION, do you really think I can go up 30psi on race gas?? I've been reading about TOUELENE, and there are some great articles on it, as an octane booster...

If your paying for an hour of tuning then go in there with the boost set at a reasonable level to start then turn it up as you go on the dyno.

One of the most important things is to go there with the car in top condition. You'd be surprised hwo many people head to the rollers with boost leaks and all sorts of other problems. Bringing a spare set of plugs and maybe wires is a good idea. Bringing anything that might break that you can easily replace is a good idea too.

Try not to go expecting to get a certian number. That just leads to dissapointment. I know that one from experience.
