No compression?!?!?
i couldn't find this problem anywhere else so here ya go. i did a tranny swap to a 95 eclipse rs n/t, put everything back in and the car wont start. ive got spark and fuel, then i put my hand over the tb to feel for any compression, and just barely. i know before that thing would suck my hand up in there. now, during the swap i rotated the engine backwards, could that cause some sort of horrible timing problem?? i took the valve cover off just to check it out, everything looks fine. what could this be?? and if it is the timing could someone tell me the best way to time this engine??
thanx

why dont you do a real compression test? your hand over the TB doesnt qualify.

Yes, it can cause the timing belt to skip, check and make sure the timing marks line up.

with the crank pulley lined up and no. 1 cylinder at tdc the cam gear marks are about 3 notches off on each gear from lining up. is this far enough off for there to be no compression?? and is taking the crank pulley off the only way to get to the belt tensioner?? thats like the only problem im having right now, i just wanna get it back in timing but the engine isn't dropping all the way down. so im stuck pulling the pulley off... if you have any other ideas of timing this engine all feedback is helpful.

You keep saying no compression, what exactly are the compression numbers? 0 0 0 0 ? If you truly are getting 0 compression, the valves are probably bent. Here's how to fix the timing belt. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G-NT.html

yeah i seriously meant no compression, lol. did the timing, nothing... so the last final test i did was an air compressor and a spark plug fitting on the end of the hose, and rolled each cylinder around on compression stroke and shot some air down there and out the intake and exhaust it came. which sucks really bad ### that was a new head to begin with. well, looks like i added some to my project, does anyone know how far this head can be ported, as of valve size..
