Didn't find anything about this with a search, so here goes.

If you're up late on Friday or Saturday, and can handle tight corners on a canyon road, there's a great one that runs through the Sierra Madres. Just take the 2 freeway north, if you're coming from the Los Angeles area. Hit the 210 East, then exit at Angeles Crest Highway (continuation of the 2 north... last fuel [on right] for X miles). Take a left and then don't turn at any of the stop signs until you hit the parking lot for Mt. Wilson (no stop sign). Make two rights, park, and if there's a group standing around, feel free to come over and talk, or check out cars, or whatever.

Small group tends to gather between midnight and 2am. Note that street racers will be mocked if they offer to drive for cash... it's all about enjoying the drive.
I'm mostly tired of being the only DSMer up there, when the FC and AE86 kids all have company. :D
On a side note, there are BBQ grills up there, if anyone feels like a cookout some night.

Oh.... and bring warm clothes. It gets COLD up there.

Isn't that like advertising a spot? But whatever, I don't blame you for trying to find other DSM people to run touge with. It's usually better to find roads with less people on them, hence the 'no naming spots'. I think you're just describing like a picnic area, right? Not a specific road. SoCal roads should be opened up by now since the weather is nice.

Yeah, it's just a meeting point to hang out, work on cars a bit, and the ride up is pretty fun. Plus the view is outright awesome... bring a camera or some binocs, the whole valley just glitters. And there are actual stars. :D The 'tight turns' are on the road up to the picnic site.

During the day it seems to be a tourist trap, lots of cars going up driving WELL under the speed limit, yawping kids... that kind of crap. At night all those problems seem to virtually vanish.

im in but not til next week when i get my awd back, im stuck in my 91 n/a so its not very fun, oh yeah talespin shoot me ur # im down everytime, i love driving, i pmd you my # call me

I'm gonna have to take it cautious until I get the new rims/tires, camber kit front and back (last owner dropped it 1.5 and never fixed camber), and possibly replace the left control arm... when I take a right-hander over 45 degrees steering turn, I get a rhythmic, firm jerk to the left after I straighten out, until it corrects itself. :b Might be a CV joint, but my mechanic said it wouldn't be as bad as described.

Sure, I'll give you a call tomorrow sometime.

I will show up after the MOD is done. bit busy working on the car now.

I know that feeling. :D I'm still wondering if I can get a Drift bumper, and either the clear corners, or GT blackout covers before then. *Know* I'm not going to get the headlights done. Sadly, after the SUV smacked the corner, it's looking a little hoopty with a smashed marker light and cracked bumper. :(

oh snap.. i didnt know any dsm's go up there.. i used to be the only one up there with my team couple years back.. i was up there few weeks ago, saw couple eight-sixes drifting.. :thumb:

Yeah, one of the guys is trying to nail the long left-hander into the '****ing lot'. Kinda funny.. he keeps going in too fast, almost crashes into the poles or stumps over there. Then there's the loud one, that I'm pretty sure can be heard from Chatsworth. :b

I'll probably be up there every weekend that I can afford to, once my new rims and rubber are on, the camber is fixed, and the alignment is done. :b Down side is that one of the asian guys who works in a tire shop down in Westminster is dragging his feet on getting me prices, so I can't exactly proceed. And I *really* don't want to lose a tire on the cruise, with that harsh a dropoff on the left.

(edit)
Oh, and fixed the left control arm and front axles... had a bad inner right, and bad outer left CV joint. The right axle fell to pieces in my mechanic's hands when he picked it up to show it to me. :b Still waiting on the rims, tires, and alignment though. :(
