I know i'm not alone on this one when i say that mitsu's welding on the shifter of the cars sucks. I just had the big "bolt" twist off the weld the other day and i would like to hear who else has had a problem with this.

If possible, i want to get a bunch of ppl together that have all shared the same problem and possibly get ahold of the NHTSA and have the shifter side plates recalled due to improper welding (i can weld better than this with my eyes shut), and improper design methods.

Let me know and post here if you've had problems with your welds twisting off as i have.

Thanks a bunch guys.

Same here. The welds broke on mine.. I drove the car home using the cables.. LOL.

Nanan, now you know 3 ;)

Luck for me my friend welds. I just had it fix.

Boosted98gsx, Not worth it. You will get nothing from it. :(

Sorry but you are mistaken. If we have enough ppl who have had the problem and report it to the NHTSA, then there will be a recall on the shifters as having a shifter break on you in traffic could pose a safety hazard. Trust me, that's how it works, been through it with the xfer case recall so yes, we would get something from it, being a new shifter.

The transfer case locks up and you can die.. You can't die from breaking your shifter. They did nothing for us when there was a class action law suit for the rims and when the lips would bend causing blow outs. You can still do it, but IMO it's not worth the time.

Will NHTSA consider cases in cars that are five years out of production?

If it's an issue that could potentially end lives, yes.

However, I don't think they'll much care about the inconvenience of getting your car towed for a broken shifter.

you haven't gotten the pamphlet about the class action? It's going through the missouri courts now, and you can get $200 per rim that you replaced the defective rims with.
