Im in the middle of tearing my head off due to a broken stud in the exhaust side of the head. The bolt was deep and the extrator i used broke in sthe bolt. That really sucked. Once i decided to remove the head and bring it to a machine shop, i began to take it off. Once i had the valve cover off I noticed one of the lobes on the cam shaft had a some wear on it. It looked like a small gash, didnt seem to be damaging the rocker arm or be in the way of the cam stroke. I need some good inputs on what i should do..replace them with stocks or go with an aftermark cam setup. If i go aftermarket, can i keep the stock retainers, springs, and rockers? The retainers were replaced not to long ago (20K, with stocks). Im not looking for an all out race car, around a 12 sec street car. Please help thanks !! :thumb: :talon:

It really depends on your budget. If you have the money by some cams if you dont get stockers. Quite a few people have run cams without aftermarket springs I have.

If you just want 12s stock cams will do you fine.

If you really want to go bigger the FP1s should be a nice upgrade.

How many miles are on the springs? You might want to have them tested to make sure they hold enough pressure while you have everything apart.

With stock springs, i would say 264's of any kind will do. Fp 1's, or HKS 264's.

Bring the cam to the machine shop with you. They might be able to buff the scratch out to where its perfectly fine. It may still be perfectly fine. Id probly get some good stockers for dirt cheap as a replacement and save your money. The money youd spend on the cams could be better spent elsewhere on the car with your current setup.

if you can, find a d intake and C exhaust cam, little bit more duration... you can ID them by a tiny letter printed on the side of the cam opp. the gears...

Didn't realize that they were out for the 4g's other than the Evo8's... Who carries them?

HKS dealers will have them. Marco (Magnus) happened to be getting one set on this shipment so I got my hands on them as quickly as possible.

Thats really interesting.... here are some responses that I got from our "DSM" vendors:

--- Wired Speedlab---
We currently only have the ones for the evo8. At last I heard the dsm ones should be arriving in about 3 weeks or so.

Thanks

Ricky

--- Turbo Garage ---
I do not have a clue. I have never even heard of a 280 cam for a 4g63.

At the time there not planned at all.

As far as what I have heard from HKS there won't be a DSM version. Of course that may very well change but as of right now we haven't heard anything saying other wise. Aside from that we have done a few sets on the EVO and I am not too big of a fan. They will be great for racing applications but aside from that they tend to be too lumpy and the idle is insane. Not to mention the complete loss of low end torque.

Just food for though. Pleas let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

HKS distributor says HKS has no plans to produce any new cam sets for the 90-99 4G63, they are only producing new products for the evo8 and newer mitsu engines. looks like 272 cams are all we will get from hks.

--- Slowboy Racing ---
i dont think HKS is planning on making them for the dsms. The car isnt
even made anymore, so i dont think they are going to invest in casting for
them

--- Extreme PSI ---
The 280 cams are not yet available for the Eclipse yet. We have them in
for the EVO but are still waiting for the Eclipse to come in. Please check
back with us shortly for updates on this product.

Dear buyer,

We have not heard anything from HKS regarding 280 degree Cams. Keep checking our website at www.mach1car.com to see if they release them and we list them online. We look forward to doing business with you! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask and let us know what you want to do or if you need anything else. Thanks for the inquiry and we look forward to hearing from you,

Sorry, I don't know if they will be available for the dsm.

Thanks,

Hello

Hopefull these will be soon, I will talk with HKS and see what they say. Once I know more, I will give you an email

Why not just run full up 272's. No problem at all, just rev to under 8. If not def. get the combo 264/272. Still no problem at all. 1g dsm head valve train can handle it and for a lot more than 12's. 11's are possible on a stock 1g head, valve train, and intake manifold. Been proven many times over.
