mbc blows air from wee li'l hole?

hey all
just decided to do a boost leak test, and was suprized when my mbc started blowing air in my face and whistling.. it only does it after a certain PSI (not sure what psi though).. why the hell is this? suppose i should buy a new one, but the hole is there very intentionally.. the intake system deffinitely holds pressure after the mbc whistles for a second, but it obviously doesn't hold boost above the psi that it starts leaking at.

is the psi that it leaks at maybe whatever i have the mbc set to?

yeap - thats why they call em bleeder valves

your supsoed to remove the MBC to leak test.

it's there to let the air used to open the wastegate actuator escape

It should start leaking close to what your set boost pressure is. Like the others have said it's a vent to keep pressure from being trapped between the valve and WGA and holding the wastegate open.

thanks for the info guys, i understand now

suprized me to catch that breeze in the face though, haha.. happened to have my face just above it trying to put pressure in the device i made and bolted to the turbo..

if any of you are still reading.. should the intake piping running to the intake mani feel firm when under pressure like this? (like, while pressurized at 16 psi or so?

if your talking about IC pipes then yes, it shouyld feel pressurized. when there is no air, you should be able to squeeze the pipe (assuming they are stock rubber) and when it is pressurized, you shouldn't be able to squeeze. hope this makes sense.

that's what i figured, but i could squeeze mine easily

means you need to fix more leaks, once you have everything squared away those pipes should hold pressure for about a minute and drop from 10psi to 0 very slowly. bust out the soapy water

Well, a bleeder vents-off the pressure to the wastegate to regulate how far it opens, while an MBC more regulates when the pressure is allowed to go to the wastegate. They need the vent hole to let the wastegate close again.
