toronto,
Hey guys, a couple of friends and I will be building our roll cages (1g and a 2G)in april(one of my friends is a fabricator).
And I would like to have some feed back how to build a proper cage and see some of your desings keeping in mind that the car is a road racer.
Of course I will do more research but this will be the bigening of it, so please post PICS and share your wisdom.

Thanks for the feed back in advance.

Here are a few shots of my cage. I started with the AutoPower roll bar from I/O Port and then added the U-Weld cage to the front of it. It consists of 6 points & double door bars. I think the whole cage costs around $1,000 or so. (minus cost of install) I am no welder by any means. Its made of 1.75" x .120" DOM mild steel.

Tsi aside from cost why didnt you go with nascar style door bars on the passenger side? Would have given you a lot more room, you could of gutted the door for weight and you want as much room as possible between you and the bar.

Cost really was not the issue on it to be honest. I mean, the cost was good dont get me wrong and I never want to over pay for something. But once it got over $1,000, there was no sense in worrying about the cost at that point you know :D

Doors will still be gutted here soon. Not concerned too much on the passenger side (as there is no longer a passenger seat), but I may upgrade the drivers side with Nascar type bars in the future. There is about 7-8 inches of space between me and the bars on my side. It looks misleading in the picture due to the angle I believe.

It wouldnt be that hard to do new bars on the drivers side I was told by the guy who put it in. Always something to think about as well. Thanks.

AshTsi - I have seen that companies before and the are nice. I also know tha I/O Port also sales a similar full cage option to like that as well. And you can add the double door bars as well. I cant see it in the picture and your "actual" cage may be different. But per SCCA & NASA rules, there needs to be a diagonal bar on that cage as well.

The purpose of a roll cage is to protect the driver in the event of a crash or rollover. (disclaimer: In no way am I bashing your car or you as a person. I have seen these cages used quite a bit and I am not trying to single you out) With this type of cage, the lower half of your legs are completely exposed. If you're going to spend $1,000+ for a cage I would opt for a custom 8-10 point setup. You can get a NICE 10 point custom cage with DOM tubing to NASA/SCCA/RTA spec for ~$14-1600 with NASCAR door bars. I know fabricators that will not install this or any 6 point cage even if NHRA or IHRA says they're "OK". Personally, I don't know how a race series encourages an unsafe design. I suppose it's better than nothing, but, as they say, when it comes to safety...

Manuel, you're in Canada, our ruling is a bit different. Go to casc.on.ca and register for the forums they have alot of pictures and info there and you can find CASC's actual rulebook on rolecages. Basically all styles are pretty similar, the more important aspect is the material you'll be using (and what diameter is allowed with each material and see what you can afford).

OR you can buy the kit for dirt cheap, they're local to Aurora, Ontario (south of Newmarket) and just weld it yourslef. It will save u ALOT of hastle and money.

CSC Racing Roll Cage Kits for all Oval track racing custom fit to every body style. Only CSC rollcage kits fit your body style and your budget.

Btw it's Luis incase you don't know.

Is there such thing as a roll bar for our cars that still permits entry & use of the rear seats?

I have a two kids that use the rear seats on the street, but I'd like to have a roll bar for the track. Anyone know of a kit that would suit my needs? Perhaps one with a removable diagonal bar?

ehhh, idk would you really want your kids in the back if you get in a accident? and the kids bump their heads on the bars?

unless you plan on running padding on all the bars then like 97spyder maayng said, the 1st or 2nd one would be a good option(idk if they would fit a DSM or not)

Just a heads up a padded roll bar still hurts like a mofo and it will only really do any good if they aren't wearing a helmet.
