Calgary,
I was driving last night in my 1g and I happened to rev to about 7000RPM and after that I lost all boost. My turbo is making a loud vacuum cleaner sound and there's no boost at all. Did I break the shaft or something? Do I need a new turbo or can I fix this one? Thanks

Did you check for shaft play, or breakage? Have you checked your seals? You should check those things. I dont have too much expericne trouble shooting turbos, but those are some things you should check first. Your turbo mightta crapped out on you. How many miles does it have?

I haven't checked anything....it went last night and I had to work today, so I'm driving a fairly gutless car right now. The car has 194,000 Kilometers on it, so it was fairly old I guess. But I just ordered a replacement off of ebay for 170 bucks.

Does the turbo guage show boost but it doesn't pull? Could be just a simple intercooler hose that came off or busted. I woulda diagnosed it first before ploping 170 down. My gsx has 166k miles on the 14b and its rock solid, no shaftplay whatsoever. So the turbo might still be ok.

Neither of my gauges show boost. Max, 0 PSI. I guess I will be able to check it when I swap them. Is there anything I should check, in/out play I think is one thing. Other than that, what can I do.

About the new(used) turbo, what should I do when I get it. Can I port it, or will it help anything? Thanks guys

Ya with the MAS intake hose off, just check for side to side/ in-out play. Since your pulling the turbo for replacement, might as well do a compression check to make sure it isn't anything else and to see how your engine stands.

If you have the tools to port properly, you could always open up the step on the 14b to 7cm and port the o2 side for more flow and better spoolup:

Good luck

I'm probably going to port it then. I assume I should be very careful not to get shavings in the turbo? Thanks again

Sounds like you popped an IC hose off, overreacted, and bought a new/used turbo.

Lando, I would love it if I popped an IC hose off, but the fact that there's oil all over the turbo and it's making a whizzing/grinding noise kind of makes me think differently. But I'll triple check tonight...if so, anyone looking for a cheap 14B? LOL

Well, you never said THAT. ;)
