So I got hungry, decided to go get myself a whopper. I have to drive the talon again, beh. I get in the car, and since my S-AFC is staring me i the face (its set on my gauge cluster) i decide to just run through its settings, for the heck of it.

everything looks as it should be under hi throttle, low throttle...throttle point, and the percentages. I decide to dabble however, on the sensors menu.

There are 4 different options...flapper, karman,...etc... I start scrolling through them, and as soon as i hit the 4th one, which is "karman", my engine and exhaust note change, the nasty rich smell of fuel being dump dissapears, and my CEL shuts off!!

I am dumbfounded...."can this be REALLY happening?" i think... Magically, my factory boost gauge starts to move now...wtf?????!! parts of my car that werent working before are now functioning 100%!! So i get out my car run around my townhouse complex screaming like an idiot "it lives, it lives!!" ....I run inside the house to spread the good word. I cant believe it..

Now...

WTF mate^^^?!?!

what was that all about? what does this "karman setting have to do with anything going on? I am no means a tuner, but this setting changed everything....

Help, please explain!!

Karman is the type of Mass Airflow Sensor that Mitsu uses. If it's not set for it, its gonna run like ass. There are settings in the SAFC that are used to control fuel curves. Some people who use the GM MAS and Translator will most likely have a different setting. I haven't fully played with one yet, but I'm just going on intuition.
Also, they computer needs information for all the things that come from the MAS. Airflow, Barometric Pressure, etc.. If these are not being processed, then the computer cannot properly set a good fuel curve to achive stoichiometry. Since the SAFC is piggy backing and interfering with the computers inputs from the MAS, you'll need to set up the SAFC so it gets the correct input. The CEL light went away because it probably said you had a bad MAS, when you switched the setting it disappeared. As for the boost gauge - same thing - Bad/No input = no reading.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Woody.

I read up a bit myself.

I cant believe i was riding around for 3 weeks NOT on the karman type sensor!

All is well now. Woo!

uh, our MAS is a Karman type sensor. That is why your car now functions correctly :D
