I tried the search on this, and i am really suprised that there isnt a thread on this.
ANyway my problem is that the end broke off of my oil dipstick today and now its wedged inside the dipstick tube. Its too far in there for neednoses and I cant get a magnet on it. Is there any other way other then taking the oil pan off to get it? ANy suggestions?
This is the 3rd time this has happend to me. I usually just used needle nose pliers to get it out. My 1st DSM broke 2 dipsticks and when I was test driving a DSM a few years ago, it also broke one too.

Right after halfway down on the tube, there is a flange with a 14mm bolt that bolts it to the block. Take it out and yank it free. It might be hard to pull out since it has a o-ring on it, but take it easy.

I unbolted the bracket and yanked on the tube. It didnt come out. Any other suggestions? This might sound dumb, but I am gonna try and jb weld the dipstick to the end of my screwdriver, and when it hardends just pull it out

Be careful with the JB down there. I'd be afraid it'd seal to the tube and block it off.

Agreed^^^It sound s like one of those plans that after it fails you're like, damn, what was I thinking??? Anyway, that sucks man, hope you get it out ok.

Maybe instead of JB, try Superglue or something like it. You only need it to stick enough to pull the dipstick out a little. If superglue gets stuck to the inside of the pipe it would probably be a lot easier to poke through than JB Weld. The only other thing I thought of (and I can't picture the exact size of the tube to see if this will fit) is a stretched-out coat hanger.

have you tried a telescoping magnet? (magnet on the end of a retractable wand, similar to an antenna for a boombox)

They just detiorate, I dont have it fixed right now, cuz my car is sitting in the garage getting a bunch of goodies on it. I have no time for it right now seeing how I go to school full time, plus work full time.

My friends who have dsms also break them as well so I know it just isnt me.

mine blew out one time and melted on exhaust mani. I had to shove it back in to get home and it got stuck also. The only way to get it out is to take the tube out, or get a reeeeally skinny pair of needle noses.

The handle broke off of my dipstick, and I can't get to it with pliers or anything to get it out. I tried to unbolt the tube, but after a few splashes of PB Plaster, my trying with a leverage bar/ratchet, and then me trying with around 140lbs of pressure on my impact wrench, I can't get the bolt out.

If I were to just cut the tube (a slice down the side, not cut it off) to open it up a bit and get to it with pliers, my friend could weld the tube shut again. Only thing is, he needs to know if it's a steel, or if it's aluminum.

Thanks a lot.

I'll try a coat hanger or something of the sort. Welding was my last option, because I really don't feel like dropping the oil pan and everything to get it out.

dear all,

today i was checking my Motor oil level and guess what happened :(

the dip stick for checking the oil got broken and i only pulled the plastic area out the METAL METER stayed inside the Tube and i can not take it out , infact i can not see it it looks like it went all the way down :( ( i hope you know what i mean , the plastic area on the dip stick got loose from the Metal and the metal Meter is left inside.

i did not drive my car today i took taxi , can you please tell me how iam going to remove this meter from the TUBE ??????? can you please tell me if it will damage any parts inside the engine ? please tell me what to do. i hope it will not cost me a fortune to remove it :(
