The balance shaft belt, or the timing belt? Either way, you should not be running the car with either of those broken. Pull the front cover and replace BOTH of them. Hope you didn't destroy your head...

You can also..just say #### it and just reinstall yout timing(cam) belt and leave the balance shaft belt off...you would still have the front balnce shaft running but I noticed a bit of extra power, with only a SLIGHT increase in engine vibration at 3k-4k

Without the balance shaft belt, you'd have a little more vibration at low rpms, but the car would run fine. I'd bet that it flew into the timing belt and caused it to skip a cog and become out of sync. If the car runs, you're probably ok, but I'd quit driving it if it runs badly!! What you'll need to do in that case is replace your timinig and balance shaft belts (you could use your old timing belt, but you have to tear down and reinstall it anyway, so you may as well replace it). You could also do the balance shaft removal at this time, but plan on increasing your labor time significantly!
