purge control valve Q

I was looking around under my battery the other day and found that i had a disconnected hose on the purge control valve, i found the hose and connected it back but then i saw a bigger hole that looked like it was supposed to have a hose... its right under the black/yellow hose it has, anyone know if its supposed to empty? I checked out the Intake manifold emmissions hose diagram and it looks like its supposed to be empty, so anyone no if its ok like this? Im kind of a newbee at this so any help is appreciated, thanks

there should be 1 line thats normally labeled air on the charcoal canister it should be open to atmosphere.

if you don't have a canister i'm not sure.
