Oil pressure ??? good but light flickers

My oil pressure is good at an idle goes up under a load.
But the dash light flickers at idle even though the pressure reads good.
do these both come from the same sensor?
What could be causing this.

the low oil pressure idiot light and the gauge have separate senders

Check to see if you have the right amount of oil in the car. When you give the car hard throttle the oil moves to the backside of the engine, and if you don't have enough oil in there your idiot light will come on and your motor will go without oil for a spit second.

Replace the "too late" light sender.

The oil level is fine.
the car doesn't burn through it.
If the light has a seperate sending unit were is it?

They are both by the oil filter. One looks like a mushroom(kinda...I dont know how else to describe it!), the other just threads in and has a wire attatched to it. If I wasnt lazy, I would find a pic for you! The sender for the guage is the mushroom lookin one.

Looking up the front of your DSM's dress:

quite often the light sender wire will be frayed or break on an old car.. if it comes in contact with a ground, your light will flicker... check to make sure that the wire is not in contact with anything besides where it screws to the sender on the oil filter flange/housing

{edit} duh... just looked, saw your car was a 97.. guess it's not too old... but check it anyhow...
