What is this? Where do the hoses go?

Hey hows it going everyone? Ive searched and can find nothing. I was haveing some problems with my dsm and it ended up being a blown headgasket. So now im in the process of putting my motor back in. Its all in and just have a few things that arnt attatched. I have attatched 2 pics. The first one is something on the bottom of the intake manilfold and it looks like 2 hoses go there from somewhere ### there is 2 nipples. I just dont know and cant find anything. The second one is on the water outlet thats attatched to the head. There is a hose thats broken of that plastic piece. They look like vaccuum lines. Do i need it and can i fix it? Anyones knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Jason

In the first picture it is your egr valve that is not hooked up. You should have some vacuum lines that come from your throttle body i believe (not 2 sure on a 1g). But here is a link that has the routing for the vacuum lines if you can make it out or you could just do away with the egr depending if your state has an emissions law or not. As for the second picture im not to sure about it as i have a 2g and havent noticed it on it yet. but hopefully someone can help you on it.

I'm pretty sure that's the temp sensor for the A/C system, not the ECU temp sensor. Mine's been hanging on by a thread for a while now, and one of the wires snapped off the connector. No CEL/DTCs. Never use the A/C anyway (belt's off, but I haven't been arsed to pull the compressor) as it didn't work when I got the car, and as I understand it, getting it repaired will end up being ridiculously expensive, even if it's something small like a hose fitting leak.

The ECU temp sensor is the one straight down from the vacuum thermoswitch in that picture... that pair of non-connected spade connectors at perpendicular angles (| -). The gauge cluster thermo is the one barely visible above the thermoswitch, peeking out past the radiator hose. Single spade, right above to the O2 sensor connector retainer prong clips.
Yeah, I had a recurring code 21 problem previously if you can't tell. :D Put some solder on to help reinforce the wires, then siliconed the hell out of it to add a little more strength until I can afford to rip out and replace the engine harness. :b Got rid of the CEL that'd pop up every few weeks, in any case, and am still getting good temp readings on the logger.

Ok great now that i know what that stuff is i can move on! Where can i buy a new vacuum thermoswitch??? And can i solder the black piece onto the ect sensor wires so i can plug that back in? Thank you so much guys

I think the thermoswitch is a dealer only item.
The black hooded connector is as Talesin said for the AC temp sensor. The ECT sensor is the two pronged one below and off to the side in your picture with no wires running to it.

You have to remove the pin from the connector to resolder it. You'll have to find the wires for the ECT before you can decide if it also needs repair.
