Situation - I purchased a 97 GST recently, running like crap, CEL (0100 - MAF/VAF) is coming out of the ECU.
After inspecting the wiring plug to the MAF I noticed the previous owner spliced into the harness. Seems to be a ground wire that had a typical washer type connector on the end of it to ground to the body/battery. I can unplug my MAF while the car is running and I hear no change in idle with this connector to the battery. Plug the connector plug back to the MAF and it does nothing.
If I remove the spliced wire from the ground the car stumbles a bit more than before, so in turns something is working in there. It also came with the SAFCII. Checked the wiring for that and everything was kosher except the butt connectors instead of proper splicing and soldering. Fixed that as I checked over the wires by proper soldering and wrap.
Help needed - I've searched and searched all kinds of forums and the only thing I can really find is the typical 2g on a 1g MAF and the GM>MAF-T. I'm not interested in the upgrade at this point but if it's about the same cost to replace it then I can go that route. (if it is indeed a 2g thing and not just solely 1g). BUT, I could really, really use a wiring diagram for the plug in to the MAF that has 7-8 wires in it so I can trace down that odd wire and find out what I need to do with it or if there's indeed a bad ground somewhere upstream so I can eliminate and fix the problem instead of the jolly rigging. Thanks a ton in advance.
[email protected] if anyone has a diagram and would feel guilty about posting it.
Any tuners around Jax, FL?
