Hey guys I am going to rebuild my turbo as the car has 160k on it. I found these different kits on ebay and I was just wondering what is the best too buy. Maybe you know of better parts than these as well. Just let me know. thanks.

I personally think the first one might be the best it seems to come with the least amount fo stuff but the other ones seem fake to me, maybe I am just paranoid :) :laser:

I wouldnt suggest doing it your self, your still going to have to send it off to get it balanced.

it would be better to replace it and you could probly get on cheaper then getting it rebuilt and stuff think twice before wasting time and money on something thats pretty much really hard to do with out the right tools

Replace it. Its just not worth the effort like has been said before. And I would be weary of any kit off e-bay. Probably some chinese knock off anyways. Save the money and just do an upgrade. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I agree with the others. It's really not cost effective to rebuild yours. It's a bit more complicated than just swapping out the seals and bushings (the rebuilt turbo neeeds to be balanced).
I'm running a Evo III 16g GT from Turbochargers.com, and I'm very pleased with it. They're about $460. Stay with major DSM shops for your turbo - I'd steer clear of any Chinese knockoff 16g's on ebay.
Or you can buy a used Mitsu 16g for about $300 in the classifieds.

We've rebuilt them before, they work ok afterwards but the time and the parts cost can be the rub.

did i see the words re-balanced in this topic. ok i would love to see someone show me how you balace a mitsubishi turbo.

i rebuild the damn things. there is no balaceing to oil bearing turbos. only ball ball bearing ones.

if im wrong. someone please correct me, and give the reading material to prove it.

ok i was convinced it was impossible for rebuild until last post. Whats up with that...so it is more complicated than replacing all the gaskets or its not LOL?

If you mark everything before you dismantle it, then it STAYS balanced when you reassemble it in the same position!

aight so now what kit do i buy and does anyone have the link that shows how exactly to mark everyhting to rebuild it myself?

All that you have to do is mark the shaft with say a scribe or a dremel in one spot and at that same exact spot on the compressor wheel make a mark so that they will line up. Then you take it apart and service it and then when you re-assemble it re-align the mating marks that you made. The turbine blade is part of the shaft so no marking will be done for the hot side.http://www.turbochargers.com/store/...d=352&osCsid=429a2437e5982bbe34dd6db0e9be24d8 This kit can be had for less, if you look around.

I was under the impression that rebuilding a unit is fairly simple and getting it balanced at a performance shop is fairly inexpensive.

Why buy a new one when it's seals are just as old as the one you currently have?

I say be adventurous and rebuild yours, and get a shop to balance it afterwards.
(obviously figure out total costs, incl. balancing first)
