Alright I just bought my car last week. Now when i make a left my clutch just goes all the way down :toobad: . i know this is a sign of crankwalk, but it does not happen every time. So how much longer do i have till the motor stops running? I read somthing about getting the crank seals done, will that postpone it a bit? please let me know! thanks

Its hard to tell man. When your clutch starts sticking around turns, I would say its pretty bad. It could blow 2morrow or it could last awhile. My 2g had crankwalk and when we pulled the motor I could move the flywheel horizontally about a 1/4"-1/2" and it was still running until the day we pulled it, and I drove it daily. Crankwalk sucks! But look on the bright side its time for a nice 6 bolt swap, then you wont have to worry about it.:dsm: Oh, and dont bother trying to "postpone" it. Just take it for what it is and do a 6 bolt swap.

Yeah... it sucks. WOuld you recommend any places in chicago that would do a 6 bolt swap for cheap?

Yeah, if you could that would be tight. I'm probably gonna take some time though, because I still need to find a motor. thanks!

are you evrn sure its CW? how did you come up with that.? my clutched stuck to the floor on left handed turns more so than right turns.. bad slave/master

I agree that further diagnostic steps should be taken before the motor gets pulled.

A quick field test is to test crankshaft endplay with the engine off.

Put the keys in your pocket, and set the e-brake securely.

Put a socket on the center crank bolt (22mm on 1g, ?on 2g)

Put an assistant in the drivers seat

Take a medium size pry bar, and place it's tip against the socket, and the bar against the body.

Have the driver press in the clutch, and release, while prying against the socket.

The crankshaft endplay spec is fairly small, (.002"-.007")and if you see movement, you're almost surely worn beyond the service limit. (.0098).

(Above specification is for 1g 6bolt, the later seven bolt motors will be similiar, sorry, cant access my 2g stuff, grrrr computers)

For reference, a sheet of paper on edge is ~.004".

It just takes a couple of minutes to do this, and then you at least know where you stand.

Please post back what you find.
