I did a search and I found alot of timing belt/balance shaft responses. I am not in that situation. I was driving home from work going about 72mph and I noticed a vibrating/ humming noise which seemed to come from the air filter area. I could feel it in the gas pedal. The niose continued intermittently and as I got into non freeway traffic, I noticed it seemed louder, and would go away completely upon pushing in the clutch.

Any ideas? Please help me.

If it will do it stationary, get a mechanics stethescope to see if you can pinpoint it any closer. Pushing in the clutch and it going away seems to smack of transmission related issues as that's what you take off line when you push the clutch in.

Let us know.

I should have mentioned it doesn't do it when stationary... or at least not yet. I'll give it another once over tomorrow.

I did a check of all the fluids before getting to into taking things apart and found my clutch fluid quite low. Am I correct that I need to use DOT 3 brake fluid in the clutch master cylinder?

I'd question the throwout bearing (even though 45k is low). Do you notice any difference in your clutch pedal? That can also be a sign - but doesn't necessarilly have to feel any different. If you can, listen for a whirring sound coming from your bell housing.

I had developed some squeakiness feeling in my clutch pedal about a month ago too... I swore it was in the pedal assembly itself until I pushed in my clutch one day (in Appleton for us guys from WI) and my clutch refused to disengage. It spend a solitary night under a security camera @ a 24-hour Kwik-Trip.

Long story short - it was my TOB because Napa had improperly surfaced by flywheel and left a lip around the outer edge of it causing the TOB to ride crooked on the tranny output shaft. F-ed up the sleeve on the output shaft itself and thrashed my TOB. I lubed up the sleeve (because it is a non-removable part of the bell housing which are next to impossible to find) and threw a new TOB in and it is working fine. Probably a temporary solution, but it should last me the rest of this driving season (knock on wood since it is only two more weeks).

Let me know if you are up in the Stevens Point area any time!

I just went and topped off the master cylinder, if this is why I have the noise, do I have to bleed the whole system do you think?
