My old engine started smoking, compression was down to 50psi on #3 piston(bad ring) so instead of fixing it, I found a used engine with 130k miles and good compression and no smoking for $350. So before I install the good ued engine in my car, Please give me advise on what needs to be done before I put the motor in.

I do plan on swapping all the T-belt items, Tensioners, pulleys, water pump etc... off my old engine(3000 miles on parts) and of course a brand new OEM belt and good Ballance shaft belt remove kit. And a New clutch.

What gaskets and parts should I change while I have this engine out. Thanks

I would go ahead and change the rear main seal, intake manifold gasket, head gasket and valve cover gasket while you're in there. It would also be a good idea to replace all of the injector fuel rail seals and all of the turbo related gaskets such as the manifold to head, manifold to turbo, turbo to O2 and O2 to downpipe.

I'm sure a few people will chime in with more, but that's about all I can come up with for now. Nevertheless those should keep you busy for quite a while.

Good luck with your build Bob,

Andy

I would change your front main seal, cam seals, and check your oil pan gasket as well. You wouldn't want one of those blasted seals leaking on your new timing belt stuff.

Thanks Guys, I was not sure if I should change the head gasket or not because the one on the used engine is ok, Should I install some new head bolts also, and will OEM be ok for the 15-16 psi I run.And of course I will retap the threads before I install the new bolts.
