Has anyone had their T25 go....

while they still owned their DSM? What sounds did it make, because I think mine is going bad. I hear a whining/winding sound when I apply hard boost (flooring it), but... it doesn't do it when i'm moderate on the accelerator.

Could very well just be normal. Does it sound like a whistle almost?

If you wanna know if your turbo is going, disconnect your intake tube from the end of it, grab the turbine and move it to check for shaft play. If it's solid, then the noise you're hearing is likely normal

I did check the shaft play and there is no in and out, but normal up and down, it's really starting to bother me in the sense that I hope that it's nothing internal. And no, there is no "extra" whistleing besides the spooling of the turbo. The sound that it makes really doesn't sound normal to me since it started 3 weeks after I bought the car! Let me know what's up. Hopefully someone else has had something similar!

Yea Mine is going right now! It is making alot of smoke when i apply boost. I also hear a sound like the turbo is still spining but it is not like a normal sound..Also it is smokeing under the hood too. I pulled my intake off and there is play in the shaft. So better check you shaft play first.

I did, and there is nothing out of the ordinary, but the sound comes when I apply hard boost (WOT) so that makes me lean more and more toward my turbo going bad!

Maybe your belts are loose and slipping under hard accel?

I don't really think it is turbo related.

Never thought of that, maybe I should take to a local tuning shop, because I don't trust any of the dealers around me, and see if they can correctly diagnose what the hell that sound is! Thanks for all who posted!

Did you notice any bent/discolored fins on the turbo when you had the intake off? when my t25 went i had smoke under acceleration, and it was accompanied by a shrill whinning noise. Turns out that noise was the fins against the housing. They were all bent a little and you could see blue coloration on the ends that i am assuming was caused by the friction of the fins against the housing. Luckily i garaged the car before a fin broke and made its way into my intake, that would have been real bad. Just my experience, hope ya figure it out!!!

your turbo is going bad, I had the exact same problems most of you have described, smoke under the hood, discolored fins, when it would sit at idle or drive it i would hear like a whistle/grinding noise, for a little bit i thought it was normal maybe it was pushing more boost at a point (yes very stupid thing to think) but it was actually the turbo going bad, you might not notice it when you check it by hand, or even spin it by hand, but from what happened to me, you should go ahead and get a new turbo before that one completely quits on you and you are stranded on the side of the road.

I just came back from my car and there is minimal shaft play up and down and there is no in and out shaft play what so ever... I'm losing my freakin mind... anyways... it could possibly be the pulleys and belts, let's just see...

My turbo went 2 weeks ago. It started with irregular boost readings. Sometimes 13 sometimes 14 sometimes 15, never constint. (was set at 15). Followed by smoke a few days later from the exhaust, and under the hood. The turbo wouldn't make boost until full throtle. Then before i new it, my engine bay was covered with oil and began to poor out of my exhaust and i couldn't make boost. It pretty much blew up, but now i have a good reason to up grade.
