what causes clutch disk springs to become loose?

i took my cluch out the other day and noticed that the springs on the clutch were loose and the metal around some of them was all cracked. Does any one know why the springs in the clutch would come loose? After i changed to this clutch i have had problems with chatering while the clutch was dissengagded and would go away when it was engaged, could this be assosiated with the springs being loose? ive only had the clutch in for about a year and a half, and it only has at most 5,000 miles on it
 
The Chattering you are talking about sounds like a bad throw out bearing, did you make sure to put grease on it when reinstalling the cluch assembly?
 
The clutch is defective, but if ya try for a warranty, good luck, they ll blame your driving. I had a friend with an SBR 3500 with the same prob and they basically told him they re not in the business of giving free clutches to guys who abuse their cars. Imagine that.
 
Could also be heat. If the clutch has been slipping badly then you may have overheated it. My 2.0 nt clutch did this when I first turbo'ed my car. It held up for about a week and by the time I was done the whole thing was fried and had multiple cracks around the springs from the heat. It had operated with 0 problems for probably 30,000 + miles before I turbo'ed it.
 
Pivot ball, fork, pedal adjustment, flywheel machining to the proper step, etc..can play huge roles too. Depends on who installed it and if it was done properly. Mind you, Mavisky seems to have "been there and done that", so he could very well be right.
 
I never had ay problems with it slipping. I installed it myself, but its not like it is hard, with the alignment tool. I made sure the machine shop machined it to the right step height. Here is what I think. I payed for a rebuild on my tranny, basically the guy screwed me on it. Anyways the tranny's bell housing was busted and welded back together. We had to force the tranny back onto the very first dowel pin in the front of the engine. Could that little bit of forcing maybe have put the input shaft at a very slight angle causing the clutch to maybe wabble a bit. The car had a bad ch, ch, ch, ch, sound when i was in gear caosting with my foot off the gas, it would stop once the clutch was engaged though.

Maybe an idea?
