Hey i rebuilt my friends motor, its a 7bolt 4g63 with pistons and rings and headgasket arp headstuds and a milled head. The car burns oil pretty bad, and after running for a while cylinder number 4 (furthest from the timing belt) has oil smoke rising from the cylinder when i remove the spark plug. I compression tested the motor and numbers were as follows: 180,165,165,165 then i put oil in each cylinder and it changed to 190, 170,170,170.. don't ask why i put oil in the cylinders i just wanted to see if the numbers changed much..

Anyways when i had the head milled the cams were removed and i just put them back on and torqued the cam cap bolts down.. what could be causing that cylinder to have such high compression and to leak oil?.. I did not bleed lifters and i don't really know how to (so please tell me how).. car ran fine before i rebuilt it (it just had crankwalk out the ass and stripped bearings)

What about valve seals? If it isn't sealing properly, oil can leak down them. Burned oil in cylinder will have high compression

Also, putting oil in cylinders during compression check is standard. It checks for piston ring sealing.

THis is actually somewhat advanced (as it may have to do with how you rebuilt the engine). Try posting in the cylinder head/block forum. THey specialize in this.

Umm yeah some burnt oil in that one cylinder may be caked on the piston causing a higher compression reading. Could try seafoam to remove it, but that's only short term solution.

Did you hone the cylinders? Is it possible you installed the piston rings incorrectly?
