I have taken my engine apart and noticed that I have just one balance shaft...

The second one is right above the oil pump gear behind the castle plug.

I can only find one. The one thats connected with a belt to the crank. What drives the second shaft? And where is it?

As was stated the second one, the lower one, is driven off the oil pump and and fits into the open area to the right of the crankshaft in that picture.

Try looking at the VFAQ for eliminating the balance shafts for more information.

Ok thanks for the help! There was no shaft in the hole to the right:| It seems that the guy who have owned it before me has just taken out one shaft.

It dont see the point of taking off just one shaft..

A cheap elimination. Was the front shaft belt still on? You can take the oil pump driven shaft out and leave the front one in to block the oil holes, but the belt needs to be removed.
Mike

Yes the belt was on the balance shaft that was in the engine (front). So I have driven the car around for a year now with just one balance shaft.

Now I think I will buy me a eliminator kit and remove the other one.

Thanks for the help! :)

Exactly, It's a little more difficult to pull the upper shaft out of the block with the engine in the car and then once it's out you have to remove the bearings for that shaft and rotate then to block off the oil feeds and then seal the hole in the front cover. It's much easier to just disconnect the belt and leave the shaft to block off everything.

Thanks for the tip! So I can just leave the front balance shaft in the engine and just dont install the belt?

Is there any oil holes in the block where the rear balance shaft has been?
