I have recently had a alternator installed in my car thinking it was bad. Little more than a day goes by with the new alternator everything seemed to being doing fine until I seen the volt meter started dropping. I took it by my mechanics house and told him what was going on and he looked at it. After looking over the belt and plug in we was clueless so we did the pull the battery cable from the battery and sure enough the car cut off, as we both looked again at the alternator we found that the wire was lose on it, so we tighten it. Ok so now its back charging, keep in mind the battery had to be jumped of to start the car. Well down three blocks the volts went from 13 to 9 once again. I took it to Advance Auto where I purchased the alternator and had them to run a test on it to make sure it was good, well needless to say its good and the battery showed to be bad so I purchased a battery and went on my way. Later last night I jump in the car and went for a spin and guess what the volts once again started to drop. I went on home and parked it for the night and decided to see what my happen in the morning with it. Well this morning it started up with no problem and had a charge of 14. On my way here to work it pretty much held the charge of 14 until half the way here thinking that it was charging the battery from last nights use. Its dropped to 13-13.5 volts normally where it stays at all times and by the time I pull into the parking lot here at work it was down to 12 volts. I did look under the hood this morning before leaving the house and seen that a wire was hanging from the alternator harness as they three wires (one for the plug, one for ground, and the one hanging it looks as it snaps on something and it looks like a 90 degree elbow). I am guessing that this wire should be connected to something but I am not for sure in which I did not replace the alternator myself. Does anyone know of the wire I have mentioned and tell me if it needs to be plugged in somewhere on the alternator are give me your opinion on what could be wrong with it. For the record I did not have any trouble out of the voltage until after installing new turbo. I have been riding around on the alternator and old battery for a month now.

Someone please help me out
Thanks

I had this same issue and the problem was one of the wires coming off all the time too. If you look, you can see the threaded post sticking out that it slides on to and you just have to get a nut to screw on there tightly with a wrench, not just hand tight or else the nut will work its way off again. The terminal on the end of the wire is odd shaped but that is so that it fits to the body of the alternator better.

i belive that hooks to the power steering pump...also..when ## car gets a jump for your battery to run at maximum where it should be it will take a good long time charging from your alternator...they are made just to maintain not really to charge..

Had a problem like this turned out the alternator fuse in the fuse box blew so went and got new one which cost like $1 and everything is good.

precisely why I don't buy reman alternators. I buy new or I have an existing OEM unit rebuilt at an alternator shop. My 90 had the original alternator on I until 2004. It had been rebuilt a few times. The voltage regulators they install on remans are poor quality.
